I got a Iphone 3G off a mate, it is locked to 02 and on 3.1.3, i want to use it on Three.

So i download the spirtjb thingy, downloaded itunes and connected to the pc, but when i click on spirt i get the following error




What do i have to do?

 

bring up the old thread mate, if your running windows 7 then you have to set it to run xp compatability mode, iirc you don't need itunes running neither

have you tried black rain or redsnow yet, has it got the updated firmware?, when i did mine i had absoloutly no problems tbh was literally plug and play so something isn't right (obviously ), plus that new jailbreak wont unlock it i don't think to any network just jailbreaks the software, when it's connected to itunes does it ask to update the phone or does it state it's got the latest software installed on the iphone screen in itunes, worse case update the software and try again.

 

In itunes it says theres no sim card, obviously the three sim card wont work because its locked to 02, thats why im trying to jailbreak, unlock first

my understanding is , that spirit will jailbreak it, but wont unlock it. but i cant help with why it wont jailbreak with spirit

 

I think you'll have to put in an o2 sim card to jailbreak as correct me if I'm wrong the iPhone needs to be on properly and it wont be if the 3 sim card is in there.

 

Im not an iphone expert, but from my little bit of net research i came to the same conclusion, i guess thats why i got the error in the first screen, its because ive got no sim in it

So if i put any 02 sim card in my phone it will work enough to get it unlocked/jailbroken and then working on my Three sim?


EDIT im still confused, can i actually get it unlocked myself(just like jailbreaking) or will i still have to go to 02 to get it unlocked etc for it to work properly?

 

You cannot unlock it with Jailbreaking. Can you unlock it yourself? I don't think so...

Put an O2 sim in and jailbreak it.....basically hit a button and its done..

Then put the new sim yuou want to use in it..

 

But tiff jailbreaking is not unlocking is it? there 2 different things? unless your right.

Can i just walk into a 02 shop and ask for a pay as you go sim there and then?

 

You can get free pay and go sims online. So don't pay for one.

spirit only jailbrakes it and doesnt unlock it to other networks???

 

When i Jailbroke my Iphone that was on O2.......i used Blackrain at the time........It unlocked the phone and i now use my Orange sim card in it.

So all i can say is i jailbroke my phone and it unlocked it to any network.....

Black rain does both unlock and jailbreak, this new one only jailbreaks as far as I'm aware never personaly tried it bit that's what the info on the net was saying about the new jailbreak

 

I found a 02 sim card in my spare room(of all places) so i stuck that in and the phone started to operate abit more, so i then did that spiritjb and it worked first time, then it made me download cydia? and where im at now is the phone works as in i can see all the menus and go on the internet/set up wifi etc, but i put my three sim back in and theres no signal at all, and the phone doesnt seem to pick it up?

Is there there some settings i need to play about with or is it because Spirit did not unlock it and i still need to do it?

 

as i said above spirit only jailbreaks it... it does NOT unlock the phone so putting another sim card in wont work!

 

So what do i do now then? ive got an 02 sim card but when putting it in it says no service and waiting for activation.

But this sim is probably years old and i dont know if its pay as you go or contract.

 

Black rain and red snow on 3,12 firmwhere jailbreaks the phone with the option of unlocking the phone( jailbreak will not unlock any phone!)

New firmwhere 3.13 which sprit jailbreakes will not unlock just jailbreak.
As far as I'm aware there isn't a prigram which unlocks the new firmwhere yet.

As above, if you are on 3.1.3 then you only can jailbreak it, but no unlock.

You will have to wait a bit, cos it seems the 3.1.3 wont get cracked anymore, cos the 4.0 will come in a few weeks/months.

 

can i downgrade it then to 3.12? i just want to get it working with my Three sim, i dont want to sit and look at it for X amount of weeks/months before some new software comes out

 

it is possible, but if you downgrade to 3.1.2, you just downgrade the firmware but not the baseband that came with the 3.1.3. if that is 5.12.01 you can try the fuzzyband app in cydia.

But not really know if it works or not...depends on the bootloader version you iphone got

EDIT tried it and it says "sorry downgrading will only work with baseband bootloader 05.08, mine is 06.02 nothing goes right for me

So if theres absolutely nothing i can do myself to unlock it would 02 be able to unlock it? dont mind giving them £15 if they will unlock it without all this hassle

 

I thought I had a few brand new ones too, until I checked the date. Mine had to be activated by dec 09! O2 sent me 4 free sim cards a while back. I'd check the date on them to be sure.

 

Can anyone tell me if 02 unlock it is that different from me trying to do, or would they not be able to do it either?

 

o2 will definitely be able to unlock it to use any network provider and they do it the proper way and not the same as you would be trying to do.

 

blackrain doesnt support the 3.1.3 at the minute however theres a new app in production which will do it... called sommet else i think.. just google blackrain
