Default st tdci ecu

ok so i have a problem with the missus`s st and i am pretty sure its the ecu, if part numbers are the same on my st of the same year what is required to "try" my ecu as i want to be certain that ecu is the fault, is it a case of swapping ecu and key chip? cheers

Injector codes at a guess...

Swapping the ECU is not a good way of working out whats wrong.

don`t think its injectors, im a mechanic and have done a load of checks including using bosch and snap on diagnostics, the fault i have is with smart charge system, wiring checked, alternator replaced, fuses checked, main relay checked, keep going back to ecu but not cheap, don`t really want to send it to the dealers

on occassions it will start then tickover at 500 rpm, engine light on and battery light on, this can happen for maybe 5 seconds at worst 2minutes, very annoying, then just kicks into life no other problems, 2 fault codes relating to smart charge circuit malfunction, its doin me head in!

immobiliser and clocks will be matched to the ECU which wont be able to be changed without dealership tools. infact, might be a write once system.

JAmes.

Does it do it from cold? Ford issued a 'Hot Start' PCM update to cure something that sounds very like what you're describing. Have you tried a different cam sensor?

The cam sensor (IIRC) is involved with the starting, then is redundant after that. Def worth a shot, rather than going the whole hog with the ECU!!

Mine does that occasionally, only ever lasts for max 10 secs, idles at 500 revs from cold start up, runs like a bag of nails, then idles normally. Normally does it when it hasn't been used for couple days.
Mine doesn't have battery light or any light on, if it done it more often then I'll get it looked at, but think last time it done it was prob about 5wks ago.

was gonna do cam sensor tonight but brought a 10mm socket instead of 8mm!
will try again tomorrow
also when this happens the accelerator pedal doesnt work, i have checked in live data and signal from pedal is ok
i would probs just leave it as well if it was now and again but has gradually got worse but not all the time!

Below about 750rpm the fly-by-wire throttle doesn't work. Don't know why, but it's not a separate fault, and happens on all TDCis with tickover 'issues'.

My advice mate would be to pay ford for an hour's diagnostics. Will work out cheaper than replacing parts willy nilly, and will save all the head scratching too!

yeah i think that could be what i need to do, just i have worked in main dealers before and tbh dont trust them as i have seen lots of problems diagnosed incorrectly, i havnt actually spent anything on parts yet just swapped a few bits off my st, when i get sick i will take it to ford
