Mine did this, came down to the inner part of the cable not being fully into the drive in the box, mine's 2wd though, dunno if yours is different.

I just refitted mine and it was ok.

Otherwise, worn speedo drive, kinked/damaged cable?

not sure if you can on sierras but on some cars you can take the cable out of the liner and you could grease it up again if you can maybe ask someone who has one off there car while doing a resto or something if this is possible

try taking your cable off and leaving it to soak in a bucket of oil overnight ..
let the excess drain off and clean the outer up then re-fit
also when refitting as stated make sure the box end is pushed in all the way

mine worked fine after this and prior was bouncing to 40 in reality was only probably doing 15mph lol

I had the exact same problem on mine. I had heard it could be something to do with the spirngs inside so i took the clocks out and had a look at the plastic wormgear which drives the needle. Their was nothing obvious but i had a good look around and turned all the gears buy hand. After that and a good wd40 ing, put it back in the car and its been spot on ever since.
Hope this helps.
Muffster.

I bought one from burton a few weeks back, but its abit short and the cable inside kept sliding up inside of the sleeving and falling out the drive on the gearbox!
