Why isn't passionford as good as it used to be?
Was a time when there was always something interesting to read... Plenty of banter and a generally a good laugh.
This is no a dig at the 'staff' but I feel over moderation had killed it a bit... Seems quieter, a lot less posts...

like you said all the fun guys - stavros, dojj etc have been banned or left due to over moderation
this over moderation hasn't effected me at all - i've never had a tiff with any of the mods or anything but it is the reason why i've not renewed my subscription this year due to the fact that now there are less fun people on here so I come here less now

I regret giving them Ł10 but fuck it, it got rid of my old car

It kinda goes in cycles. Sometimes there's loads going down, and it's quite fun. Other times it's all a bit petty and shit.
I'd say it was more to do with the users than the moderation.
There are a handful of people who I find so self important and irritating that they ruin whatever thread they're on, plus there are also people who are WAY too defensive so any potentially entertaining thread quickly turns into a slanging match.
And then there are the stupid people, who just shouldn't be allowed the internet!!

Just recently my Gold membership ran out and didnt bother to renew it, first time since i joined the forum years ago.
I pop in most days and can be left signed in but theres no enjoyment much these days, its just cocks who slate Fords now because they have moved onto a different brand of car.

I think it is a case of the way times have gone. When I first joined this place was ripe with projects, interesting technical stuff, loads of tuning knowledge and information and new ideas and projects. Now it is either because the tuning scene is dead and done to death with the old technology so it gets boring and there are less people who care about it or people don't give a shit so much about being helpful and contribute constructively and positively where possible and fill the place up with crap.
Like I said before some people pollute the forum rather than contribute effectively. There are people on here that I have noticed not offered one iota of advice to a newbie or threads they can have positive input in but save themselves for threads to slag, bully, have a dig, take the piss. DaveEscos prime example never seen him once offer a constructive piece of advice. The funny shit would all be funnier if he was actually a helpful member instead of the village idiot.

Too much crap generally. People who can't read and then take offense at things that weren't even meant to be offensive, through pure lack of understanding of what they're reading. That can either be caused by them having no reading skills, or the person typing having no grasp on spelling or grammar.
I think it will have gone down in general as well, as less people are interested in Cosworths these days. They've moved on to other, newer, things instead. That will lead to a natural decline in subject matter posted on the forum of course. Then you suffer from a case of many people who post getting ignored because they're new and don't know anyone, or because their car isn't that interesting to many people on here. I often think that unless you're pushing the limits of a certain type of car, or doing something a bit wild, then a lot of things get ignored. Someone may post about an ST24/XR3/Escort GTI/etc etc and it won't get much of a response because it isn't going to grab any headlines and doesn't have 300+bhp. It may be their pride and joy but people on here might just not bother as it doesn't have the right badge/engine/power figure. Lack of replies means they might not bother coming back, so you struggle to keep new members who are just getting into it all. Those members then can't become the high-posting, older members of the future.
Add all that together and a site will naturally decline. I can't really say I think moderation has much to do with it. Considering its size, this place isn't moderated that much really, it's far less strict than some forums I go on. Saying that, I'm not sure I'll renew my gold membership. I've not sold too much on here really, and, like Mr Astley, I don't really want to hand my money over to the corporate owner. If it was owned by enthusiasts, that wouldn't be an issue, but there we go. I'll see how I feel when I expire.
Anyway, I think a constructive start to improving the forum would be banning all talk about Evo's and BMWs
