If it is indeed a stud wall, (pasterboard over a stud frame) then the only job you need to sort is exactly where the studs are. You could borrow a stud finder, which basicly finds the nails in the wall or look for clues in the wall, (plaster sometimes dips in slightly where boards meet). once you know where your vertical studs are, then screw your brackets to them. Stud is normally 3"x2" so you dont need monster screws, but they have to be in far enough to take the weight.
If the brackets for the tv have to be in a certain place on the tv, and that is a different width to the stud, then a simple bracket between them will have to go on.

I've got 4 coach bolts into stud walls and the expandable plasterboard anchors fixings. this is holding a 60 inch LG tv on the wall no worries.

Thats what you want, check the depth of the wall and order the correct anchor

Those expanding bolts will work, but not as much peace of mind as going into the stud, especially if you are going to be up and down stairs that are attached to the wall.
