WTF? My download rate is sitting at 58kb/sec

Start a download and it starts at 117kb/sec (ish) but then carries on falling till it hits about 55kb/sec and then hovers between there and 65kb/sec

I'm on 512, the other PC is turned off so it should all be going to this machine - how come it is this slow?

The file I'm downloading is only 55mb and it reckons it's gonna take another 12mins to d'load it all

Thta's as fast as 512 can go. The figures at the start of the download are just inaccurate.

55-65kb/sec is about right for 512 broadband mate, i got 2meg and mines about 240k average from a decent site.

its not entirely dependant on your connection, the site/server you are downloading from determines how fast you can download as well.

ie. if you have a 30MBps connection, and you download a file from me, you wont get 30mbps you'll only get my max. upload speed which is more like 25kbps

oh and yeah, potential fastest download on 512kbps connection is 64kb, but in reality you will get more like 50-60

Yeah, could have sworn it used to be quicker than that, time wise I mean... a standard MP3 track will cost me about 3-4mins in time to download now, could have sworn it used to be closer to 2mins.... Must just be me going bonkers lol...
