Jim,

Is this the same garage you took the yellow one too? IF so, i think a discount is in order from them. The amount of mnoey you have given them over the years must have kept them on steak, chips and red wine for a long time.

im having the prop, diff and tierods done tomorrow as i need the car mechanical sound for the ring. the rest i'll sort elsewhere. just needed to make sure the car had a good checkover by someone that knows these thngs inside out to find any potential problems.

prices i assume are BMW parts and their labour rate is high too.

as for the condition, its actually in better nick mechanically that the yellow one was when i bought it... lol none of those faults are particuarly dramatic, its just OMFG prices!

as for the performance i recon it could do with an inspection 2 service to get it running tip top, but those aint cheap and that can wait till the 3 lights go off and it's due

Cheers Bryan, might ask BillyCabrio to sort the rear brakes for me (paul if youre reading this, that ok? lol)

2 mates are about to buy an m3 coupe as a track car so will be stripping a load of bits off of it i'll probably have. aircon compressor for one! lol

as for the windows, IIRC the bits that go wrong are just the cheap plastic clips, do you know anymore about this brian?

JIm.. those prices are having a laugh mate!

just had the handbrake freed off, disc, shoes and pads replaced on my 328 touring for about 20% less than you're quoted by bm wise in welling... might be worth giving them a shout if you're nto up for DIY these days.

P.S. good to know abotu the windows... the rear passenger side in mine just makes a horrible clunking/whirring noise when i try to open it.

not so good about the aircon though! (also busted on mine, but what do you expect for an Ł850 car?) FECK!

aircon i was expecting, you dont buy a car with aircon not working and expect it to "just need a regass"

theres a pump on ebay for a tenner, eurocarparts have reconnect ones for <300quid and also these 2 mates buying an M3 track car clearly wont have a need for their aircon pump! should be simple enough.

as for this BM place in welling, they any good? wellings only up the road really. (i spend most of my time at the GF's in erith nowadays)

at those prices! Get the parts yourself from http://www.gsfcarparts.com/

Then drop it into a local garage. Nothing too demanding, any garage can do those jobs!

I've not had any problems with them.. they've always done a decent job and (at my request) used second hand parts when i needed everything from the diff to the right offside wheel replacing to keep the costs down. Even sorted me a cash deal.
(still cost a fucking fortune though)

Give them a bell mate - speak to danny if you can and say Mark with the black 328 touring sent you... he's pretty sound.. 0208 303 5211 is their number. can't hurt to ring them!

Re the aircon you're spot on... mine makes a terrible racket when it's switched on. Only found that out when me and the mrs stopped at the services on the way to the cotswolds.
I thought the engine had shat itself or was about to, but it turned out she'd switched the AC on without me realising. One push of a button and suddenly the alarming rattling sound from teh engine bay ceased!

The aircon requires a new compressor, belt and a regas, hopefully there are no leaks in the system, but this we wont know until we regas it. Ł927.60 2nd hand compressor, new belt and a re gas is Ł120

The handbrake, the internal face of the discs are in a bad state and require new ones. This means it will also need new shoes and pads. Ł435 New pads, shoes and discs come to just under Ł200

The PAS is leaking from both hoses. Ł169.58 That will be the union most likely, a strip clean and some ptfe tape would probably cure it

The car is producing 300bhp at the flywheel, sounds a little low but really is not bad for a car of this age or mileage.

The throttle cable needs removing and routing correctly. Ł35

Play in both front tie rods, these need changing and the alignment needs doing. Ł440 Total joke, new bottom arms, all bushes drop links etcetc would cost Ł300 in parts

Oil leak from the vanos unit, it would be wise to remove the vanos unit and reseal it. Ł425 Pain in the arse but a new seal is Ł30

The propshaft coupling is splitting and requires replacing. Ł244 Not difficult to change, and i have seen new old stock ones on ebay

Diff input seal is leaking. Ł240 Pain in the arse

The drivers window needs a new rubber and possible regulator, if the motor still drops after this then a new motor is required. Ł265, motor extra if needed.
No idea, but have seen new regulators for peanuts.

Tbh mate they are taking the piss with the prices, if you can be bothered to go DIY none of the above is difficult. Also, give some different pads a go other than oem or green stuff as they help no end.

Good luck! wish i was going to the ring
