Right a little confused. When chipping a big turbo cos on a P8 ECU, do you need a chip and a pectel board or can you buy just a chip the will plug straight into the ECU directly?
Thanks
Thanks

so that just means if i have a preference on tuner, then i need to buy the appropriate parts.
What sort of cost difference is there as i'd obviously have to buy a board and a chip or just a chip. Surely the latter is cheaper or again is it the same price as its giving the same results?

Again, prices vary greatly.
I personally would NOT use a PECTEL board as this is usually just a security device
to prevent it from being copied and generally adds to the overall price.
Give Stu @ Motorsport Developments a shout as he was doing some good deals on chips recently.

Fozy,
I sell plug and play ECU's for the cossie range. This is a bit more involved
than plugging in chips and is really for those who want to make their own
adjustments/tuning to the engine. (no chips - just need a PC)
This does require a certain amount of skill though.
I also sell ecu data monitors to read out faults and sensor readings from the
original factory ecu's.

personally i wouldnt buy a pectel board because all your paying for is a way that the chip cant be copied,, it does nothing for you! (it lets him use pectel mapping software aswell)
MSD is well worth a try,, the company is a pleasure to deal with ( ive had many dealings and it does as it says on the tin

Copied from other post, but its relevant:
Remember that Pectel were a standalone Company that developed some software for the Weber Ecus that was so easy to use back in the day they rightly became the de facto supplier above all other competitors. Think perhaps the difference between Photoshop 7 and Paintshop Pro. Both do teh same thing, just totally different software with different features. It was for this very reason that they correctly had the encryption boards made to stop folks ripping em off with a simple chip copier. The idea was, you can copy my chip if you like, but it wont work without my hardware key so kiss my ass
The key my chips are supplied with does the same thing but is only about 1mm bigger than the chip itself. Times change, things move on.![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
However.... the L6/L8 weber software doesnt run any water programs and thus for programmed water and Pectel monitoring you need to run Pectel software and thier corresponding protection hardware.
Hope this helps.
