Ive got a photocard style licence and on the back its got 11. 16-03-54, so does that mean i dont need to do anything until 54? i thought you need to update because ill have a pic of a 17 yr old me on the front yet ive got nothing to say when i should update/do a new pic

They'll send you a letter asking you to renew your picture, once in every 10years and it costs £20 IIRC.

I had to do mine last year after having it 10 years, also is on the front when to change it
