Logitech Harmony One remote...

Logitech Harmony One remote...
A while back I asked for opinions on this remote as was thinking of purchasing one for the av equipment..
Got annoyed with having 5 remotes for seperate bits of equipment...
Having set the remote up at the weekend.. I can fully agree with Porkie about how great they are! Thanks for the feedback so user friendly!
I'm wanting to control some lighting from it.. In particular a floor standing light that plugs into the mains.. It works on IR so is that a plug or something that te remote would control please..?
Thanks

my dad has one of these in the states its a wicked bit of bit
you have smart command like watch a dvd in the living room and it will switch on the tv,dvd,av reciver. if something goes wrong you like you aleady have the tv on and it switches it off click the problem button and it will ask you is the tv on if you click no it will then switch on that piece of equipment and ask did that solve your problem? its great
you can control multiple room and the remote codes are avalible online for ease of use programming
very clever gadget

If your light does work on IR then it should be straight forward to add - I haven't got the software on this PC, but if there's not a category for lights, try one like 'other' and try seeing if the manufacturer is listed.
If not, then just pick a device type that you haven't already got setup, pick a manufacturer and enter something like 'My-Light' as the model no. It won't find it in the database and will ask you to define buttons/actions and teach it the IR codes (point at the sensor on the bottom of the remote).
Once you've got the device set-up, you can either add it in to your existing activities (which will mean it turns off at the same time as the av kit), or leave it out and use the 'Devices' softkey on the screen to turn it on/off.

I got the ps3 receiver from amazon.. Works a treat! Makes the ps3 Bluetooth remote redundant as it does exactly the same.
The floor stander light, is just a plug in the wall. So was wondering if there are IR plug sockets that I could tell the remote to turn on / off?

A friend of mine works for Bryon, they are the UK suppliers of Home Easy to B&Q, Makro etc, their "all in one" remote is fantastic. He's got all the kit installed at home, the remote can control almost all the electrical devices he has providing they are Infa Red.
He's also got a base unit that you can text and tell it to turn lights, heating, tv on etc, it's amazing.
I can ask him about compatibility if you like?

Moving up a notch you could use e.g. a Lutron Rania single-channel dimmer (http://europe.lutron.com/Products/pr...px?fid=raniair), fits in a 1G back box, can do for £85 inc vat each in standard white finish. Delivery £5 for 1, free for 3 or more.
There are other systems out there, but to be honest its more the stage/club lighting that I deal with - the Lutron range is just something that happens to be on our books - nice kit though!

I specify lutron, simmtronic, siemens etc on many jobs so I'll have a chat. Lutron do a wireless presence detector that I fancy. Hopefuly I'll get some for testing purposes
Where do you stop.. A fully digital addressable dali system would be nice, complete with pc head end.. lol. Can't really warrant it for the 8 fittings in my home
thanks for help mate.

Right then, basically he said that home easy stuff is compatible with your Logitech remote but getting it to work isn't as simple as you would think.
The Home Easy range is manufactured by a company called ELRO who own my friends company, ELRO products are on the Logitech website under "compatibility", might be worth giving them a ring with a specific product code when you've found a dimmer you like the look of.
www.homeeasy.eu
Looks like there's a choice of 2, a plug in the wall dimmer or a lamp attachment that goes in where you put the bulb.

Ref surround kit - hmmm.... I presume you'll be keeping your existing amp?
New, there's the Q-Acoustics 2000 Cinema pack, which is meant to be very good and comes in slightly under budget - I can get the Kef 2005.3 for slightly more than your budget - drop me a PM if you want details - can probably be found online for less anyway, though.
Second hand, Mordaunt Short MS902s can be had pretty cheaply and readily as can the MS subs. Another option could be a set of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Anniversary Editions and a complimentary sub - the tops can be had for 100-150 a pair on ebay and are pretty damn nice! (Anniversary Edition = proper wood)
HTH!

P.S. if your room is small, you could try Mordaunt Short 302s - I have these in my office with their bottom-of-the-range sub just for music/computer purposes and they're very capable little speakers.
The 304 centre channel doesn't look particularly nice though, whereas the 905 centre looks a bit smarter. There is a Wharfedale Diamond 9 centre speaker - not sure if it's available in an Anniversary Edition though...
