It's tricky this I think.

The Evo has a lot of plus points. It's got four doors and most likely a slightly bigger boot from the practical point of view. It's faster and with 4WD probably a bit safer too. But I bet the running costs are probably higher than the Focus, as is insurance I should imagine.

Something just pulls me to the Focus somehow. Just a bit more special I think.

Evo for me mate... I had an Evo8 and I loved it. There isnt anything in the ford range at the moment that would steer me away from another one. The only thing I dont miss is the Evo fuel gauge... Im sure you can see it move. lol... But to be honest, if fuel costs are an issue steer away from them.

Servicing can be a costly if you take them to Mitsusushi... Mine went in for a 27K service just before Xmas. They phoned me up and said the front wiper blades would need replacing. As I was such a valued customer they would give me free fitting... Still came to Ł69 for just blades. They also said the discs and pads might need changing in the near future...Just to replace with the brembo discs was just a smidge under Ł1600.
Personally I wished I had taken it to a specialist garage as a lot of mitsusquishi dealers are also citroen. It was unerving when I took it in for another service and the mechanic walks out in his best citroen overalls telling me he is going to do a bit of work on my car... the first question is " is it turbocharged "!!!. Doesnt fill me with confidence to be honest

I do like the focus Rs though, nice cars.

focus rs anyday, my dad has had evo's. hes goting to buy a new x soon, but the running costs are abit much for average joe. Ł200+ tyres, service every 4500 miles Ł250 - Ł500. and thats just for oils!!
and then when you brake it you carnt fix it for ford focus repair money!

As a ford man, focus rs.
As a everyday car, with the possibility of fun all year long, evo :P

Voted focus, as I'm in a ford man-mood today

agree with above as i have kids and a 3 door is a pain in the arse, and i see from 1 off your previous posts you live in cruden bay, 4wd would be a bonus out there as can get pretty bad, used to buy fish out of peterhead so traveled up there everyday, nightmare in the winter, so my choice would be the evo.

if u can run the evo and dont mind the cost of serviceing it then u would have to be a fool to buy a focus over it also the evo will hold its money more!

Had an Evo 7 for 2 years and FQ400 for 6 months, both faultless cars.

My 7 was serviced once by Mitsubishi and wasn't expensive at all but I didn't like all the apprentices there who were driving it (was a Jap import and never released here so they were all keen to work on it). It then went to a specialist Evo guy who was similar in price but loved the cars and respected them. Did a lot of track days etc in it and the community over here have had them tuned by one of my friends. He does the remapping on most of the CT9A range.

Great cars, lots of fun, easy to play with and over here, cheap to enjoy. Never been in a focus so can't comment there.

Evo 6 is the one to have

My sis has a evo 8 which is heavy on the juice. After being at the pod for central day I didnt see anything special about any of the new focuses rs, st or new rs which I was a bit gutted about as I wanted to be impressed by them deep down :-(

Bring back the cosworth badge ford guys!!!

I'd prefer an 8 to a 7.

Couldn't stomach the fuel bills myself.

FRS is a cracking car!

Evo 7 RS SPrint if you can find one and stretch your funds slightly...

FRS is a VERY capable car too though...

i think the evo 8 looks the best out of all of them. The focus rs is a nice car and a good car. With a few mods they can be a weapon.

Ł200 for a tyre? Try camskill 80-100 just had oil service Ł130 major service cambelt etc Ł500 only expensive to run when you use main dealers which in my experience don't have a clue with these cars much better using a specialist I use rg Motorsport in Kent top bloke better off with a nice standard Evo 8 for 10k evos are in a different league to the focus imo just budget for the fuel bill because they are thirsty round town.

I voted for the RS, mainly for running costs and resale value.

But, I'd actually have a Focus ST3 for that money

Smits,

The running costs of a VII can be quite hefty.
Had mine for a year and it had 3 Mitsibushi services and a clutch & Flywheel.
Was a great car and perfect for what i wanted. An every day runner that i could drive to a track day, use there and drive home.

The FRS could do the same albeit probably a bit cheaper. Only thing that put me off the FRS was the steering wheel.

For me it would be the FRS now if i was in your position.

If you buy a VII though i have some Carbon FQ inserts for the rear spoiler

MK1 FRS for me all day long... if it'd had been an 8MR then it might have been a more difficult decision.

EVO over the FRS, as said big boot, 4 doors, great all round car & all weather performance.

Just find a good independant to service it, If you get bored go for a remap.

evo for me, just better delivery of bigger power and hold their value a tad better, easier to sell on too!
nowt wrong with the focus RS, but it is still a FWD car with not that much power really and it's a little sedate IMO.

That little quote totally ruins anything else in your post because it shows you know very little about these cars... an Evo7 holds its value better than a MK1 FRS, hmmm, yea course it does.

have a look at evo prices and have a look at FRS prices mate, theres no way an evo 7 holds it money better than a FRS. ive seen evo 7's priced from 6.5k find a FRS for that money

If your used to BMW build quality, then the Focus is going to be the much more pleasant daily driver. Neither are every day material for me, but if I had to trust the car to get me to work, and not being serviced every 2 months it would be the Focus.
