Default Business Mileage

I need to get all my end of year business paper work sorted and give it to my accountant, I need to do my business mileage but as this is my first year not to sure how i should do it am i right in thinking it should be

Home to depot to site back to depot to home

Or should i just do it as a round trip home to home

How do other people do it?

Cheers Brian

I am an accountant and it all depends what your contract says and the job you do.

If you are on a permanent conteract within a set range of jobs without a permanent place of work then you can claim a lot of it back. If your contract states that you have a permanent place of work then you can not claim the mileage to and from work but any extra you can. Feel free to drop me a pm and I'll answer any questions you have.

I dont have a contract mate, i set up a limited company and i just work for a few different agencies, i normally get a long project where i go from home to there office and then get told where to go then some times back to the office with paper work then home.

Other times i just get the odd shift where i drive from home to site then maybe drive some where else then home or back to site to sign out then home

If you are driving to a site and then being informed of where to go then the site is classed as your permanent place of work and you can not claim for this. There are however ways to get around this and if you have a limited company then you shouldnt be worrying about things like this as you should be putting everything through the books and then drawign a wage or divedends through that.

we don't get home-work or work-home paid as business mileage as you are actually coming to work

same as you wouldn't expect your employer to pay for you to go to work from when you left your house, only when you arrived at the place of work do you get paid
