oh yeah, forgot about them ancient cars dont have cats,,,,,, sorry so long since i owned a old banger,,,,, sorry i mean cossie i forgot they have a piss easy MOT emissions,

general rule is if the car idles for 30 seconds the car aint turned a winters day into a hot sunny afternoon,,,, its a pass

stolen from government MOT testers guildline pdf:

If a vehicle meets the CO requirement at its normal idling speed but
fails the HC check, re-check the HC level at a high idle speed of 2000rpm.
If the HC reading is then 1200ppm or less, the vehicle will meet both the
CO and HC requirements.
�� the CO requirement must be met with the engine running at its
normal (low) idling speed

more info on this is that 1200ppm for HC on all pre cat cars.
for cars before 1986 but after 1975 CO must be less than 4.5%
after 1986 the CO limit is 3.5%
