VW Techs.... Derv turbos
My car has been running a bit funny for the past few weeks. Basically I put it under any load over say 2000rpm it hesitates, feels down on power and smokes more than Bob Marley. Then it goes into limp mode, you turn car off and it is fine.
I'm now thinking its the veins on the VVT. Going to have a go at cleaning them out at the weekend, any tips on doing this? BKD engine BTW

Was it blocked up?
When it had its mot I got an advisory saying slight oil leak on the turbo. I'm thinking that might be contributing?
I shall check the EGR valve before attacking the turbo I think!
Did it bring the management light on? Mine says "boost out of regulation" or something like that.
Seriously pissing me off TBH. Smoke is embarrasing and I have to drive like a grandad to stop it going into gimp mode. And any road over 60mph is a no no.

It could be either the EGR valve or the vanes sticking in the turbo.
Try removing the EGR valve and putting a bit of thin metal (coke can or similar and bolt the valve back on and see if it cures it.
Also check each and every little vacuum hose under the bonnet as if even just one has popped off or split, it can cause a lack of power.
You can check to see whether the vanes in the turbo are sticking by putting a pressure/vacuum pump on the actuator and operate the pump. The rod of the actuator should move easily and smoothly. If it appears stiff or juddery, there's a good chance the vanes are sooted up and sticking.

Be very careful here though! Those VW engines recirculate quite a lot. I used a piece of tin can once and it blew straight through. Was just pure luck that it didn't end up in the engine but got tangled up in the EGR. So I'd recommend to use at least 1 mm strong metal to be on the save side.

I don't believe the 140bhp bkd has a dpf? I could well be wrong though!
The fault is boost out of regulation.
First started going into limp mode on the same stretch of uphill motorway. Now just doing it more and more often.
