DIY Flock Kits.

Are diy flock kits any good? do they look good once finished? Just had a few quotes about getting my dash flocked and they come in roughly at £100, but i was hoping it to cost around half that
Plus i'd have to get my dash repaired before that anyway. so i thought i might have a crack myself. it doesn't have to be a show finish, but i dont want it to look like a 5 year olds haircut (half bald) The dash is a vinyl "crash pad" from a mk2 cortina and has cracked along the top where most of them do.
I've seen a kit that Frost do for £16.50

Any info?![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Very easy to do but also very messy!
Infact, if you want it I could post out the rest of the kit I bought, its only in my shed doing nothing.....give you a chance to practice before you do your bits lol

Cheers Luke,
Joe, my advise is that it all depends on the part you are flocking, for example if you are doing small bits of trim like facia surrounds, vent housings etc then you can use the diy kit with a bit of practice. If you are thinking of doing a proper dash then I would say try something other than the final part first so you can see the finish for yourself. As it is not electrostatic there is no control over the fibres hitting the adhesive so it will have a patchy finish. Also the adhesive which is supplied with these kits has a very short working time meaning by the time you have finished applying it the bit were you started has already begun going off so the fibres will find it even harder to penetrate through the adhesive. The last thing to remember is that if you do some yourself and then decide later you want other bits done electrostatically then they will stand out a mile. I would be more than happy to offer you some advise about using these kits and especially about getting alternative adhesives if you wish to contact me on 07894 636 707
Hope this helps
Raj

Thanks for the positive feedback.
with regards to doing the whole dash, its a case of the Dash pads on the cortinas always crack, mint ones cost a fortune, recovering costs a fortune, and tbh, flocking doesn't work out much cheaper, especially if i have to courier it somewhere aswell. Its a case of i can't justify spending the money but still don't want it spoiling the look of the car.
i was after a cheaper option. but still haven't found one
i'll have a rethink again unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Autoflock all the way I saw some of his work over the weekend and was really impressed!
So much so my dash will be going there as soon as I start my project.

Who quoted the £100?
Dash repaired - £10.00
Dash prepped and flocked - £45.00
Courier collection from customer - £15.00
Courier Delivery to customer - £15.00
Packaging to customer - £7.50
Total - £92.50 ALL INC
How does that sound?

Companies in Birmingham Quoted around that, the £100 was roughly what i was getting back at me.
Thats a great price cheers, but i still can't justify that much yet. Maybe in a few weeks or once the car is on the road in a few months and everything else has been bought.
i apreciate your help though mate.
Cheers, Joe.

Cheers mate, i hope i didn't come across as ungrateful. Its literally a case of i can't justify that much on a cosmetic part at the moment. i want it all to be nice and new, but can't afford it
i'm sure you understand this with project cars, its the final push at the moment and the sheer number of small parts needed soon adds alot to the price! ![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
i'll contact you in a few weeks hopefully.
Joe.

I know exactly what you are trying to say mate, I will be doing a thread shortly on a series 2 rs turbo dash repair so keep your eyes peeled as this may give you some inspiration to have a go yourself. The repair will be finished using a flexible paint so it looks factory.
