Exhaust wise would go with either KTEC stealth or the yozza sport system, ive got the ktec on mine with solid top mounts, camber bolts, lowering springs, DS2500 pads on brembo discs and braided hoses and running 8X15 comp th's with 215 45 15's which are tight squeeze in the rear arches !!

If its a open induction kit bin it, it will loose you power. IIRC the only alledged proven exhaust for gains wise is the Supersprint race one.

Ktec stealth is a good bit of kit and the Yozza sport is a very good quality build (based on the supersprint) although very loud and expensive to buy.

Conversions, cams, nice gains but cash vs gains you can do a lot better. TB's will get you about 200bhp but the conversion to which whips STI Scoobys (see youtube) etc is the 250bhp 4k supercharger conversion from RS Tuning in Leeds.

Iv been in it when it was running 270 and its seriously insane. Uprate the bottom end and match the boost and you could be talking mid to high 300's maybe even 400's

Are there any off the shelf rail kits for lowering the drivers seat considerably?? I would really like a pocket rocket like this to use as an occasional track car... but when I sit in a 172, I feel way too big for it (I'm just over 6ft, but quite big over the shoulders etc) and don't think I'd enjoy the car properly unless I was sitting lower and not feeling like such a tool by filling up the drivers side window.

Cheers,
Grant

How is she going Kev?

I am seriously considering buying another one to do track days with again when I have finished my house but with Donno shut for the foreseable I prob wouldn't get the use out of it.

In reference to the question - I wouldn't do a thing to it. Use it and abuse it and upgrade as you need to.

The brakes are good as standard anyways so just replace the disks/pads when you need to. Braided lines are a good bet though for £50 and a bit of arsing about.

Be warned though if you go for a pad that is too track orientated it makes them dangerous on the road as the abs kicks in all the time.

There isn't a lot to do to make them go faster really without spending silly money just improve the already excellent handling and stopping power.

If its just for the road invest in a decent set of tyres like F1s the turn in is just imense and you can drive round the outside of everything in the wet- avoid shit tyres like the plague as they make this particular car shit, worse than anything I've ever known that I've put shit tyres.

I'm no expert but I've owned 1 x 182 cup and 2 x Ph1 172s and tracked one of them ( my bro owns one of my old ones now) so have a good handle on them.

In a word YES
In another word expensive.

The 182 came with a recaro option which sat lower and could go further back but they're rare - in theory it should bolt straight into the 172.

Direct from recaro is circa £2500 for both front seats + they have air bags in the standard seats.

Dunno about other race style seats off memory but they're easy to replace and bipass the airbags if you do.

get a second hand bucket seat and mounts, usually the mounts have different holes so you can lower it

It is a open induction kit but might get a bmc one for it. Not keen on ktec stealth, think I want to see the exhaust out the back

I used to have a phase 2 172, i had -40mm apex springs, a green cotton induction kit and a magnex cat back exhaust. Not overly modded but it was good enough for a 14.7 at santa pod!

Just before i sold mine i swapped the tyres for 205/45's instead of 195/45, wished i had done it as soon as i got it. I only got 3k out of the front tyres too. I found them a bit too short geared, i could easily find the limiter 5th on the motorway.

I have a 172 cup.

Get your self on cliosport.net theres a group buy for the yozza exhaust as we speak!

JMS also do the best filter kit for the clio which with graph is giving about 10bhp

As for power theres a company in england doing a LPT conversion for under 3 grand and it takes the clio to about 230bhp and in a cup thats real quick!

Theres also a company called Fastchip from holland that do similar things like the bluefin it costs 140 euros but for that you get launch control and you get updated maps for free infact its a great thing lol.

Decats can be had for 60-70 quid but you'll need ear plugs!!!!!

Im sure i read that they were geared for 144-145mph on the limiter in 5th. I think the phase 1 172's were slightly longer geared.
