would a damaged vavle cause fiesta rs turbo to smoke?
ive got a fiesta rs turbo thats smokeing after about 1 min of starting up or when you blip the throttle its also smokeing out the breather kit even on tick over, its had new turbo, baily breather kit, and recent head gasket, oil returns ok, just done a compression check and number 3 was down to 50 psi, all the others were about 150 psi tried it again with oil down the bore, and it was still 50 psi, tried it with oil down the bores and the rocker arms removed and it was still 50 psi, all the valves and rockers looked ok from above would a damaged valve cause these problems or is it the rings shot??

both fucked valves and fucked rings would cause it to smoke as you wont get compression so you wont be buring the fuel and it'll prob be leaking oil into the cyledar and then all that gets shoved out the exhaust and ignited by the other 3 cylenders.
i'm afraid its a head off job now to find the cause of the problem

i'm for the ring brigade, a valve would cause a missfire, and your compression would be lower than that, and on a petrol engine not a lot of smoke,

Another vote for rings. CVH is a piece of piss to do though mate. Get yourslef a workshop manual and a torque wrench and get dirty. Great way to learn. My brotehr rebuilt his first CVH at 16 when my mum got him an Orion 1.6i Ghia as a plaything to learn on.

I would have thought top end myself.
If it were rings, the oil he put down the bore would have sealed the ring and gave compression.
Just a thought though.

I'd have thought a knackered valve would cause low compression on one cylinder.
And if oil's been poured into the bores, surely that would smoke more as it's burned off? Just asking as I have only a simplistic understanding of such things.
When were the valve stem seals changed? Oil will be happy to run down the valve stems into the cylinder if the seals are shot.
