Default Anyone got a german shepherd

I really want one, but my missus is a bit wary of them. Anyone got a nice one and got any pics I can show her?

Gorgeous. I've actually seen a bitch very similar looking to this one at a rescue centre locally, quite small but so friendly.

Gorgeous mate. I love that pic with the cat. If your dog is anything like ours this is the second before all hell breaks loose.

Please please please please get a german shepards without the "lowered" rear end.
Some outwashed bad rased german shepards looks like hyenas, and I hate that.

Cleanraced shepards is one of the best looking dogs imho

I was told, but not that sure, that they are the same but german sheperds' name was changed to alsation when ww1 kicked off, because everything german was onsidered unfashionable (makes sense, even the royalty changed their name)

agreed, my mums uncle was a police dog handler and has always said the same as it minimises the risk of hip problems in later life and just for a bit of trivia he had the first white alsation in the police force, called silver

In my opinion both of those dogs (certainly the first one) look as if they will have hip problems in their later life. This is all down to poor breeding. There was a program on TV about a year ago that highlighted all the poor breeding practises in various breeds of dog and even some of the top German Shepherd breeders are still in-breeding this problem. It showed some GSDs struggling to walk properly due to this "deformity", some of them were walking on the underside of their lower rear legs instead of the pads on their feet.
Before buying any dog check both parents out thoroughly first for temperament and health issues, it will give you a lot more confidence in your decision making and also safeguard you aginst problems later on.
Finally, never buy from a puppy farm as these places are only in it for the money and care very little about the animals that they are producing or the bitches that they are using.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
