Default closed loop(HELP)stu-james @ msd

currently running t34 .63 ,swedish,55 blacks,wasted spark, als, lc.
closed loop
just fitted stack wide band gauge ,on tickover its reading 14.7.but driving at 70mph 5th gear @3000rpm its reading as low as 11.5 ,as soon as i floor it reverts back to chip and fueling seems to be fine .dont know what to check first i've changed the narrow band but hasen't made any difference,if i drive with the narrow band unplugged fueling comes up to 13ish
any idears where to go now
also went to fordfair and mpg was about 20

The ECU needs a narrow band signal Jason. Wideband wont work

I must of missed that part of your first post lol.

The CO should be set to around 3% ( iirc ) without the closed loop running.

What narrow band is it? do you have it wired up correctly ?

Possibly the ALS has killed the narrow band sensor - have you tried a new one?

That's high, mine just went through MOT at 0.97% CO, 137ppm, NOT on closed loop, and runs perfect, even idling.

Assuming the car has no electrical faults and the chip software is matched to the engine spec and parts,

I reckon you have high fuel pressure .....

have you ran the IAW software on it to check for any faults? a sensor failure of some sort is probalby most likely, or an air leak

fuel pressure should be 3.5 bar at idlle with the vac pipe off,
pipe on isnt really relivant, as the figure si totally dependant on engine spec,as this effects manifold depression massively

James you say air leak but don't the closed loop software adjust for this???
Reason i ask is i was trying to replicate a fault on mine L8 closed loop by creating a air leak to see if idle co would rise after taking dump vac off and boost gauge pipes off and adjusted idle to suit extra air the AFR still stayed around 14 to 15

I would presume that it would rise on a L1/L6 without closed loop control
was trying to create a fault a friends car could possibly have

it will to a point, but air leaks will effect map sensor readings, which can richen things up,
and you can get air leaks on the exhaust side which make the lambda sensor read incorrectly

its totally dependant on the idle strategy as to how effective closed loop is at idle, which again relates to engine spec

I would initially be checking the quality and accuracy of sensor inputs and the checking the quality of the lambda sensor and ECU earths on the vehicle.

This is correct. The chip has closed loop compensation settings that vary from cal to cal so where as one chip may allow a 25% compensation, another may only allow 5%. The ability to compensate also depends on the injector duty on teh load site above the correct one as the air leak will move the speed density map up a load site.

maybe your wideband isnt caliberated correctly, or your als has damaged your wideband sensor?

i would deffo check on the iaw first mate, id be 99% sure theres an underlying sensor issue, but yes we can test the chip, you could send it to us in your ecu, and we can test both at the same time

any joy with this?
i had high co at idle, non closed loop
i got it on the iaw and showed the tps was incorrectly set
then found i had 2 airleaks after the throttle body even tho the engine was just built so i assumed it would be fine.
now i just gotta get it back on a co machine to check if ive fixed it.
