Just test driven an E46 M3.......
Sitting browsing the BMW UK site and decided to go and look at a local dealers stock, in particular, an 05-plate E46 M3 with 25k miles on the clock.
Had a look round the car, started talking to the salesman that I knew from when mum bought her car in September... and he offered me a test drive in it.
I was seriously impressed at how well it pulled, using the whole of 3rd and 4th gear could really get you into trouble with the cops.. the throttle response was razor sharp with the sport button pressed. Never really rated them too much, but to be honest, I'm very tempted by these cars now.
Cheers,
Grant

Quite fancy a CSL myself Grant, i'm not out of love with the 3dr yet though by a long chalk, but it'll be my next car for sure after having a drive of one a few weeks back, WHAT a noise they make.... but as you've said, the M3 is a superb car..

Sure are Kevman!!
Pete, what are the differences between a normal M3 and a CSL engine-wise.. because I totally LOVE the way a CSL sounds, is it bolt on stuff, or more serious??
Cheers,
Grant

Bonus with that is you could get a Touring and I could spread my labrador over the back window with that pulling power.

Power wise not loads but loads more ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ's for being light weight and better brakes and paddle shift etc...............the new M3 yes has more grunt but because of the extra weight of the engine (V8!) its not that much quicker on a tract but in real life situ yeah it will leave the 46.
I know of a few guys over in europe who have the older 330d in the 400+hp region as that straight 6 lump with common rail diesel injection is so tunable........it comes down to being able to get a hold of large enough injectors as you start to run out of fuel especially when using sequential twins .

Superb cars, hands down the best allrounder for the money. Im still in love with mine and i normally get bored after a month!
Anyone who compares a 335d to an M3 clearly has no sence at all! The M3 was not built for straightline speed at all!
Ps if you can stretch to a CSL go for it mate if i didnt want a vert i would be in a CSL now.

Well spotted mate well spotted...........yes i'm afraid it was b/s but at one stage yes the car was ordered and then he found out it wasn't going to arrive/happen at just over a Ł100,000 so they returned his deposit some Ł20,000 i believe http://www.innovationcars.com/blog/a...i-wont-happen/ .
The quote i made above was that of Jeremy Clarkson's so once again guys i apologise..........he's ended up buying an X6 twin turbo diesel 306 hp and 442 lb-ft.......not the same i know but he seams happy with it.
P.S..........i've stated the same on another performance diesel forum i'm on but i couldn't beleave that no one on there court me out?

I've had m3 thoughts too. Fucking awesome cars. I've driven 2 e46's but neither for much more than a quick blast. 1 was rw's while 4 up so not quite the same as being alone or 2 up.
It'll prob happen at some point

i used to work in the bmw dealer up hear in aberdeen and the m3s r crackin cars,to be honest i wouldnt say there is that much diffrence with the standard m3 and the csl.m5 now thats a proper car, sittin at 130 and it feels like your doin 60.real comfy rapid car,but the diesels r the ones with the real torque.they just run out of boost to quick,if i was going to buy a bmw then 335 petrol is the one to go for and it just looks like any other 3 series but they go like fuck, that was an excellent perk too that job
