I was out in my mates 4x4 sapphire cosworth earlier tonight, when accelerating not at full boost, the turbo will suddenly start chattering and the boost gauge needle fluctuates. If you try and drive at 60mph in 5th on light throttle it also does this.

any idea what it could be??

the car is running stage 3 @24psi, the turbo is T3 is i think the bearings have gone as screams over 15psi!!!

i have tried disconnecting the amal valve but makes no difference.

conpressor surge, suprised it surges with a T3 tho, so maybe not

the way ya discribing sounds like surge


but not at that boost i dont think it would

if it screams like a howl then yes the turbos deffo needs looking at ( sounds cool though dont it )

I would say almost certainly Compressor Surge.

Could be a restriction in the exhaust? Maybe one of the boxes has collapsed?

If its surge it will occur at around 19psi.

 

i think thats someone to sort first

 

Maybe its spat a couple of Turbine Blades out?
