You can do it - as long as the iPhone is network unlocked, you can use any SIM card with it.

I've had two iPhone's. and both of them have been on T-Mobile. First iPhone was a 2G (metal back, 1st gen) which was software-unlocked running on my standard T-Mobile contract, and currently have a 3G (white, 2nd gen) which is officially unlocked (by Apple, via O2) running on the same T-Mobile contract. Regular T-Mob contract, with a Web N Walk bolt on, so I don't get charged through the nose for internet usage.

cheers for the replies. Mine is from a o2 contract so will it be locked? Even using it on a normal o2 contract?

Of it's still locked to O2 (which can be unlocked by Apple via O2 for £15, or free on an iPhone contract) you can still use it with any O2 simcard, doesn't have to be an "official" iPhone contract tariff. Be aware tho that if you don't have a data bolt on, then you're gonna get RAPED on your bill as the iPhone will "dial out" for data access for stuff like email etc, unless you clear the APN in the Cellular Data settings (in which case it won't have ANY internet access, so it's pretty much pointless having it)

Spoke to 02 who were not sure either. They are saying that you HAVE to be on a iphone tariff to to use an iphone, due to needing 'data and wifi' connection. I asked what the difference is between that and free internet, and they were a little unsure but said its different!

Anyone actually using a 'normal' 02 contract on a iphone and have full features/works 100% etc...?

Of course you can. But if you're only gonna use wifi at home, might aswel just get an iPod Touch!

Si - of course O2 will tell you you need one of their overpriced "special" iPhone tariff's! But in reality, you don't. Thats why you can use ANY O2 payg sim, and ANY other O2 sim card. I know PLENTY of people on the Simplicity plan, and my 3G was running fine on a bog standard free PAYG sim, which I topped up with £15 of credit, which incidentally gave me a months FREE internet access and 500 text messages, and it was working fine.

Well thats exactly what I am thinking, I find it VERY hard to believe I have to go on their plan. As long as other people have done it and it works Ill go on the simplicity plan. Thanks for your help

I still think if you're not a heavy user, the PAYG deal is great; £15 a month top up, but for that you get 500 free texts and unlimited internet access!

Well to be fair the iphone simplicity tariff is £20 for 600mins, unlimited texts and free internet, which sounds mint.

As long as you have O2, or Orange, "unlimited" internet, then it's the same regardless of which tariff it is. The only thing you'll lose is the visual voicemail. Everything else will work fine.

I'm on T-Mobile, have the base "unlimited" web'n'walk internet (£7.50 per month) bolt on and have NO problem with internet and I use it ALL the time. My iPhone does everything an iPhone that's on an "official" iPhone tariff does, except Visual Voicemail
