Default is my car areal xr3i please help :-)

i have a 1990 escort cabriolet, it has the xr3i's EFI engine with nessessary car decals but on the log book it simply says:
make: FORD
model/type: ESCORT 1.6l CABRIOLET
Varient:

Version:
(both left blank)
body type: CONVERTIBLE
(etc...)

when i tap my reg into various insurance quote sites it comes up an xr3i on 1, a standard car on another AND EVEN A VAN SOMETIMES!!! LOL

there are many plugs in the engine bay that dont belong anywhere and it seems to have rs front and rear bumpers but no skirts...
it has the full 90spec packs availiable:
front and rear heated screen, electric wing mirrors, electric windows.
is it real or not?
thankyou for your support.

MY REG IS G69 WFC

If the original Ford-produced V55 was lost prior to registration (maybe during a dealer transfer or any other reason) you were at the mercy of the showroom salesman or administrator as to what model they filled in manually on their replacement form.

oh right, so does that mean it could be xr3i?

going by the year (late1990) (g reg) the 3 options are
cabriolet special (i think that would be tennis as it is all white)
2-tone special
xr3i
there was no "standard" as the mark5 was about to be released so i been told they just made the best ones this year i.e. "90 spec"

does this help?
check my pics if u want as the only mod i done was the bonnet.

THANKYOU!!!

I'm no expert on the Escorts, but my 1996 CAP Data book shows just three Cabriolets in production at that time, all as you've listed above:

The Two-Tone has grey bumpers with black inserts and Recaro seats with leather inserts and a centre console from Oct 1989 but (and this isn't clear) it maybe became naturally aspirated - it lists fuel injection for Sept 89 but not for October.

The Tennis seems to have had Recaro seats from introduction in June 89 (but they also list reclining sports seats so maybe the Recaros were an option?) This is the only one that lists the heated screen and I don't know if it was available as an option on the others?

The XR3i Cab is listed as introduced Feb 86. In Sept 89 it got black rocker panel mouldings, new-style colour coded bumpers and rear spoiler, and new-style colour coded wheel covers. Interior was Zolda fabric and an extended centre console.

I think anyone with access to the Ford system can put the reg number or VIN in and it will confirm the model, either by name or code.

right, great!
well it has the Zolda door fabric and matching "recaro" seats but they dont have recaro stamp on them?

has the extended centre console and the black plastic rocker moulding (skirt things, if thats what u mean)

no spoiler???

l
The XR3i cab was listed as 1597 at launch Feb 86, but in Sep 89 the book changes to just say 4 cyl OHC
The Tennis was 1597cc, 105bhp injection.
The Two Tone is listed with CVH (no capacity) and 1597 injection engines.
I've also found two more:
Mono Tone cab, introduced Oct 88 that was 1597 fuel injection.
The All Blue cab, introduced Feb 1990 and 1596cc.

I don't think Ford ever produced an RS Turbo cab, but plenty have been converted over the years.

Like I said, I'm no expert on Escorts and this book has been shown to have some errors so i won't pretend it is 100% right, but I hope it helps...

I think this is quite common, although I'm not sure why.

I owned a 1987 XR3i cabby, - had all the stickers on the back and on the front wings yet the log book said Escort 1.6i Cabriolet. I've known at least two others that were the same.

Yours is probably an XR3i

only the xr3i hatchbacks where listed as xr3i

all the escort mk4 xr3i cabbys where listed as 1.6I, as long it it says 1.6i then its a `3i.

iv had 4 mk4s myself, all genuine 3i cabs, all saying 1.6i.

the non injection ones where just listed 1.6 (without the i)

contact the escort cabriolet owners club if you need any more.

1 last thing, the gear box doesnt seem to be the right 1 for the engine either, it works (sometimes wont go into 4 without overrevving at 3) theres a bolt hole to connect it to engine but no hole on engine so a bolt wont go in? Maybe just a wrong replacement but i'll stick a pic of it into my garage on here in a minute

It's not uncommon for a Ford to have the wrong ID on their system. ST200 Mondeos often come up as 2.0SIs for example.

I seen no reason why yours isn't a regular XR3i cab.
