Default FRST cutting out

Had a call from my bro who is having a problem with his FRST. When driving along under normal conditions (i.e not ragging it) the engine keeps cutting out. We suspect that the car is losing its spark. He's convinced that it's the CPS that's at fault but I was always under the impression that these sensors either worked or didn't without middle ground.

Anybody got any ideas we can try to suss this out before it has to go in?

In advance

Mine used to , turned out to be the the fuel relay under the dash drivers side, the fuse box panel overheats, causing the relays to overheat and fail.

check the fuse box, mine had started to melt and as a cheap fix I wired the relay out of the fuse panel, cured it.

Does it start again after about half an hour?

A cheap place to start, have a butches and see if anything is getting hot or melting under there

Cheers.

We did actually have a problem with the fuse board the other day. The fans and fog lights wouldn't come on and after checking found the relay to be at fault with the contacts in the board. Will have a looksie this evening

Same again, The engine fan, intertior fan and fogs stopped working, nearly did the lump in, I took it to an auto electrician who fixed it and said it was a relay, but said I really needed a new fuse box and that it was a common problem

A little time later the headlight started going of whenever I hit a bump in the road again a relay was overheating, I basically put spade connecters into the spaces in the fuse box with wires attached and conected the relevent wire to the relay, thus moving the relay out of the box and away from the heat and improved the connections.

It worked, I would have had the fuse box replaced but sold it shortly after so didn't get the chance.
