Awesome stuff mate.....anything that can beat norris's old time is bloody impressive imo, having seen his go and how brutal it is that must be one fast evo for sure, and no stroker kit either??!!! Did he use the Nos for the runs too?

2wd cars are never going to match the 4wd guys, unless its a dedicated drag setup, at a dedicated dragstrip.

Too much traction required for low speed acceleration like that

Theres a big difference between 0-100 and 30-130 with slower cars because of drag. Not so much so with the quicker stuff its more down to power to weight, depends more on gearing.

Fantastic time, was the nitrous used to aid spool, as a constant power booster or just "on tap"?

Thumbs up

Well done Ross & Gary et al

Glad I went now when it came in from the practice run I did think that was game over, sounded rough as hell, thought the first timed run after Chris and Gary got it running again would be the nail in the coffin (then whilst waiting with baited breath find out the log didn't work )

Hope there are some official videos, as it sounded fantastic, I have a crappy digi cam recording of it in the 'paddock'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyzdczLjjzw

Wonder how the guy with the Focus RS that was chatting to us in the pub afterwards got on today

Wicked result Christian.

Has Si B run? Would love to know what that does, as it's a nice reliable spec.

Rick

Not so good result for me Rick Went out first car on Saturday, did one normal 30-130 run (so no flat shifting, no boost braking, no ranting it to the limit) and posted a 12.12, I then ran on to the end of the runway to find out how fast I could go before the braking point.

The car speedo was sailing round, 160mph, 170 mpg, 180mph, then off the end of the counter - towards the 190mph mark easily. Then it hit the rev limiter, a long way before the breaking boards. Being an idiot I held it for a few seconds there so my passenger could take a pic of the speedo as it looked awesome.

Actual top speed - 172 mph Dam pants 5 speed box, and my 7800 rpm rev limit. Shows just how silly inaccurate Evo speedos are. Without the Vbox I'd have guessed at 180 mph easily.

Worse still, is my time running along on the limiter in 5th seems to have buggered one or more of my lash adjusters... so I've got a tapping noise from my top end. Runs over, not worth buggering the car up doing more runs to get the time down, and without swapping the box, the car will never go more than 172mph.

8th fastest car on the day of the 62 runners, and second fastest "normal road car" I guess is my claim from the day! The top cars were all tuner cars or proper Time Attack style cars. Nathan P has a "normal road car" and his with 6 speed box did 173 mph... so 6 speeder might have to be my next mod!

Which makes the cars running sub 10 seconds and 180mph plus all the more impressive

Well done Ross, and all at APT for their work on the motor. That deffo works well on this event

Sounded awesome on the day, although as you said Christian, it deffo didn't sound as quick later in the day as it did on the first run. Motor not so healthy, but still stonkingly fast

sib im sure your aware but the 6 speeders are really weak youd want some sort of gear kit in it wouldnt you ?

we work with a friend who does alot of evo tuning work just done one that made a true 520hp on the dyno and the car its gone in has a 5 speed box

its geared for 190 though maybe an option for yours if you didnt want to change boxes ?

Thanks Jim, yep I've heard about the 6 speeders, hence my FQ300 being converted to the 5 speed box.

What I need is some kind of gear kit, as I have broken my 5 speeder twice so far in a year of ownership. That and a sequential shifter.

Shame I have no funds for decent mods like that, I can only just afford to keep it running with basic mods, and do the track days I do. Decent mods, and more events would see me bankrupt very quickly!

Plus dog boxes sound like a lot of work to use, and not so good for my road biased car. I'm happy with the car as it is, as I know it goes well enough for me, handles the track well, and can be used to go shopping in as well. It's ok, just in the competion yesterday, you could see it wasn't on a par with the big cars.

Si, what's your current final drive? As i remember there are a couple of options to give it a bit more legs at the top. An Evo 7 5th gear is one and there are a number of final drive kits too.

As Jimbo mentioned, the 6 speeders aren't as strong (the extra ratio meaning a reduction in width on the others) so perhaps looking at modifying the 5 speed would be a better option...

bloody expensive toys eh, ill ask him is it had a kit in his 5 speed see what it cost, evo stuff seems to be half reasonable to be fair, but your right a dog box on the road you dont want

IIRC RickyLee the nitrous is to aid turbo spool

Thanks for a nice evening Gary, hope Debbie is ok today the drive home wasn't too bad in the end, although I did take a wrong turning off the A11 as I was a little tired by then

Don't be too disheartened SiB you were placed VERY very well!

Mental time ! Just makes you wonder what Simons new spec car will be capable of though and thats before he puts a supercharged + turbo engine in it !

Any more info or pics of the nitrous install on the Silver Evo ? I see its a WON kit into a distribution block of somesort.

It's got the .411 HKS final drive apparently. The last box I had, standard 5 speeder from an Evo 6, would have seen me top out at 160 max I reckon, as it was even worse than this current one

I need to look into ratios more, as I don't know what ratios I actually have. I may not even have the .411.

Ideal for me would be Evo 7 5th gear and 411 final drive. Not sure if that's what I have or if I have a Evo 6 box with 411, or a Evo 6 with 7 5th gear.

Next time it's out, I'll pull it apart and see what's in there.

For now 172 mph will do, and I'll come back and beat Ross's times next year

The 30-130 event is once a year i think. On saturday it was mostly if not all evo's... (exception of a R35 GTR, which i was greatfully taken a run in) On the sunday there isnt a restriction on the make of ur car.

Ross time was brillient, carn't believe what happend, and for him to put in a time after was really good

you shouldn't need to pull it apart - the diff ratio is easy just by turning the prop shaft and seeing how many turns the wheels do, and yo know the overall ratio from the revs/5th/diff/wheels combo so can calculate the 5th gear ratio from that
