Default views on ST200 and tuning????

I am thinking about getting either a ST200 estate or a Vectra GSI estate (sorry) as i really need a bigger car but cant really warrant a S4 with all there expensive parts!!!

But how quick are the 200's???? and can you modify them much???

Any other views or opinions welcome?!?

Thanks

If you want to get pleasure from driving the car,it's got to be the mondeo,as it's got 25 bhp more than the vectra. But if it's purchase price then the vectra will be cheaper.
However, going from in the driving seat experience, you will be a lot comfier in any ford as opposed to any vauxhall. I always seem to get back ache in vauxhalls,be they brand new astra vans or 120,000 mile omega's.
But gsi's,as far as i know have recaro's in,so they might be alright.
From a neutral point of view, just read what the motoring press say about the mondeo and the vectra. The mondeo always trounces it!!!!
Tiff c20 wth has a vectra estate, ask him.

Get the 200, it's a MUCH better car in every respect, and the ST200 estate is a modern classic!

And if you need an estate, the Vectra is too wee to be sensible - with the load cover in plave the boot is smaller than the Vectra hatchback!

Hi Nick b, I have had a vectra gsi estate for 4 years and it has been great to drive and seems to be as quick as I have needed.
It has done over 50 laps of the Nurburgring in that time, again with no problems even when overtaking and putting in faster laps than the UK cosworths I met up with.

I had the ST24, it was much quicker than the RS Turbo I have now

The problem is you can't really do much to them, apart from Filter, Zorst, Chip, the only other thing to do is a Supercharger, which will cost you 3k.

I spent Ł6,000 on my ST24, then spent Ł1,000's on parts modifying it.

I wish I'd have gone for a mint 2.0 zetec (Ł1,500) then turbo'd it into a 2.1ZVH, with the cash limit I had I could of put the ST200/24 kit on, had a full re-spray, & still have around Ł6,000 to increase the horses.

The Mondeos are great cars, I miss mine because it was so comfy & easy to drive.

But as I only need a car for fun & never use it during the day I thought I get some excitement

I've got an ST-200 Estate to get about in day to day and it's a nice drive

It's no rocket ship but if I wanted a quick car I would have bought another Cossie to mod

I don't think there is a great deal you can sensibly do to increase the performance other than forced induction which apart from the cost seems pointless on a fwd estate car !

I think Stu can do you a map for Super / Optimax only which would give a bit more but that's about it AFAIK.

I got an St24 and I'm chuffed to bits with it!

Everythin works, its soooo smoooth, comfy, well specced and quite quick when you need it to be.

So the 200 can only be better. Great sensible daily drive.
