Default Radio code needed....but a question first

Hi all , after replacing the crankshaft position sensor on my '99 Ford focus , i was wondering what info is needed to attain the radio code for the radio/cd unit ?

I've read in the handbook that it should ask for the code on switch on but mine comes up with the car reg in the display , not code . Is this correct ?

And after searching other posts , it looks like i need the model and serial number from the radio and i guess the unit has to be slid out to check a serial label somewhere ?

Any advice greatly recieved

Paul

Unfortunately , there was no great haste to get my car back on the road as i have a works van ( plus i'm a lazy git ! lol ) and it's been sat on the drive since the new year. Its now back up and running but needed the battery charging as it was as flat as a pancake after 9 weeks parked and from the repeated attempts to start it which was the initial problem .

Thanks for the advice i will search out the serial number asap
