Default Duratec 1.8 vs ST150

hey,

iv bin debating which engine to go for, im only after a top power figure of around 200-250 to start with. iv looked at Zvh's but i want to try and keep with 16v over the old 8v heads. plus i recon it'll look more of a sleeper when u open the bonnet. i know the 1.8 duratec is 125hp and the 2.0 is 150 but does anyone know if the cosworth spec cams for the st lump will go in the 1.8, im assuming they will aswell as most of the other 2litre bits, cossy intake etc.

also im still really undecided on turbo or supercharging. i want reliability and driveability to be the main points. i know the turbo route would be cheaper but theres just something about a supercharger that makes me want one, i spose its because you dont see many and im not really going to need the top end power so much as id get with a turbo.

plus having never owned either but driven many turbo cars before, which is more fuel efficient do you recon?

cheers guys

Jamsport don't turbo the st150 engine or the 2.3 unless i've missed something in the last few weeks?

The st150 is tried and tested at 200-250 brake so i'd go for that and where have you got your info from saying turboing it'd be cheaper than supercharging it? Cheapest supercharger kit is Ł3200 iirc and the cheapest turbo kit was just over 4k last time I looked??

there are loads more supercharged ones than turbo'd ones aswell!

i'd probably say the turbo option could get you better MPG as you can drive it 'off boost' on the motorways. I used to get between 30-35 mpg out of my car when I commuted in it :P

hey i met you a few weeks back with my mate in the leon fr in basingstoke with my ka sport.

i was looking at it from the point of i could do a home built turbo conversion or buy a supercharger kit. thats why i mean the turbo is probably cheaper. budget garage build.
