You have to enquire at local council some areas have different allowances on how much oil you can burn and environmental reasons pay tax on it. Beware business insurance and rates is affected too you need to balance costs vs cost savings using oil burners. Propane is too expensive and we have those heat lights you find outside pubs most cost effective with min risk... well gives me excuse to headbutt the wall sometimes lol

if your local authoritys allow, or in my opinion, if you have enough sense to set it up properly, you can make a waste oil burner that burns with no smoke at all, once the oil is heated to 170f it will burn as clean as diesel well at least to the human eye!! an if you want to burn waste veg oil just up the temp to 200f, so good luck,

we've made them before out of old 56kg propane bottles, you need a flap in the top and bottom with a grate inbetween in the bottle, obviously a chimney on top and a resevoir thats a few feet away from the fire with a regulator tap and a good heavy duty tube, we had the tube going into the chimney just dripping on the fire with gravity, we had the bottle glowing red a few times lol

Had one of these in my old workplace, It was about 5.5ft tall, excellent bit of kit just a bit of tissue/diesel in the morning and it will burn oil all day without fuss, keeps you warm aswell.
result.

bump...curious about these things.
What is required in terms of oil supply to them ? external tank or what ?
And do they remain lit all the time, or how quick do they light up and start heating ?
Only for occasional use in the garage.
