Default question regarding lower arm to sub frame pinch bolts (mot tester question)

as above, now my car passed it's mot but he did say he could of failed it cos the pinch bolt between the subframe and lower arm was upside down.

as you might know that it was the bolt that catches on the gearbox resulting in dropping the subframe to remove it in one piece, i just cut the head off and put a new one in upside down, now i can see the logic in that "if" the nut was to loosen the the bolt wouldn't fall out but it's a nylock and the chances are very slim if any that it's possible to happen, is what he was telling me the truth i chose to believe him and keep my pass anyway .

it just seems pointless as it's nylocked and a simple solution for a pain in the arse problem.

cheer's mate i did have my suspicion thats my reasoning for asking on here, seemed a silly thing to fail on as i bet i wasn't the first or last person to do this, he even had his worker admit to doing it himself, but the funniest is he's had his worker do it properly for that exact reason poor bastard i can't think of nothing worse than having to drop the subframe just to change an arm

if anyone has doubt over a failure just ask the tester to point it out in the testers guide, they all should have them!!!!

Believe you me, this is not in the guide

yes it's the mondeo, it got pulled on a 50p size hole on the middle of the sill about 8" from the back as a fail too as it was structurally unsafe witch i though was a tad ott as i wouldn't of thought it'd made much difference to any belt or chassis points, but i got it welded for free so doesn't bother me really.

don't worry i do believe you like i said it's why i put the question forward cos it did seem a bit silly, dunno wether getting them to get the guide out would of been a good move though i'd of just rubbed there back up and got sent home with a red piece of paper and a sad face

Many years ago after a rebuild on an S2, the tester tried to fail it because it didnt have the retaining tabs around the steering rack to bulkhead bolts. The Mk4 was never fitted with them, only the Mk3 but it took some persuading.
