Mate of mine is a student and went for an interview stacking shelves at a supermarket at night.

50 applicants for 2 jobs.

So thas 48 people who tried and failed to get a job stacking shelves.

Its definately grim out there at the moment, loads of people out of work who dont want to be.
I would hate to not have a job at the moment!

I was ready to walk out of my place just after xmas, totally had enough. Ended up booking 2 weeks off work almost straight away and just did what i want to do for a change. So refreshed and ready for work again now, makes a difference.

I walked out of my job last july. Wasnt bad money but the job was shite. Was there 10 years. Everyone said i was mad for walking out because of reccession, etc, but i got myself another job. Not as much money, but i love the job which makes me alot happier at work & at home.
Sometimes things are for the best. It will work out for you in the long run i reckon. Did for me. You might regret it monday like i did but that soon wears off.

thats easy to say when your an outsider. in this trade there is very little or no jobs about..he probably does has gis own tools but to set up alone needs cash..for a van, other equipment like hoover, bond gun, lifters etc etc..and a few glass suppliers wont even let you have glass, glue etc from them unless you have an advert in the yellow pages, which is again more expense..sometimes more is needed than positive thinking

i know what you are saying, but i think he's been in the business long enough to know what's what and which tools he's going to need to keep

even going around the local garages/bodyshops offering to pull screens out etc for a few quid might get him enough work to get noticed while he hunts about for something else that might not be in the same line of work

I would hate to not have a job at the moment!

I remember my boss advertising through the job centre last year for an apprentice / general dogsbody for the workshop. Shitty wage and everything.

It went on their website at 8am that morning, by 10am 40 people had phoned and the job centre was called to take the ad off their site. It was more suited to someone about 16 odd but we still had guys in their 40's desperate for any work!

Infact that reminds me for that job we did start someone in their late 30's..he lasted one morning before he realised what he'd let himself in for.
