Default Looking for a new career in the car industry..LOL

I know its a long shot but.................

Well I have just lost my job in an industry that should be safe from the credit crunch but it would seem it isnt !

I am quite lucky in that I have a skill set and experience in a wide range of backgrounds and industries but really would now like a change and get back into cars full time while I have the opportunity as my next job doesnt start for over a month.

I know some will start throwing insults at me but I may be shite at running my own business but have always been a good reliable employee. !
If you cant say something on topic and constructive then please dont say anything

I am posting this here as I know plenty of quality companies do occasionally look and there are some connected people here who stay in the background.

If anyone knows of anything electronics and/or software related in engine managment or any kind of on board car systems especially relating to design and/or development then please give me a shout.
I think I have come up with several innovative ideas over the years that are still in use today and have plenty of ideas and enthusiasm still.

I can even map although I have never done it for anyone but myself.

As one example, I have designed ecu's from scratch for myself and other companies and have worked widely in the on board diagnostics field and my speciality is vehicle comms relating to these area's.

Thanks for reading

not to be taken as a dig, but couldnt you design a new monitor for cossies; plenty of people still wanting a SECS monitor so maybe design and build a new updated version.

I already have designed a new one and built a prototype but its not a business big enough to support me otherwise I would do it besides, from experience as most people know I cant do everything myself. I.E. selling and the day to day boring stuff..LOL

I actually did this for Subaru's, VW's and EVO's but that market in the end was quite big but not big enough to sustain by itself for more than a year so in the end I went back to full time employment.

Shame really as while I was developing stuff like this, I really had fun !

i'm quite surprised the market isnt big enough; but if you've looked into it then so be it

i dont know your scope for producing things; so its a little tricky to suggest things which maybe well out of your reach - such as a rival for the snap on MODIS Elite (diagnosis machine) which doesnt cost Ł7k

Actually I have worked for many famous manufacturers in the diagnostics field such as Crypton, Snap on, Facom, AutoDiagnose, Genrad to create equipment for fault code readers, abs coding, key coding etc.. for aftermarket and manufacturer dedicated equipment.

The device you mention is expensive because of its vehicle compatability range which has taken several man years work in R+D and testing.
Its a bit like video games, the kit is easy to reproduce but takes lots of effort in development.

Just out of interest Simon, if someone came upto you with an aftermarket ECU could you work some jiggery pokery with it to get it working how you or the customer wants (if the ECU has the ability to do whats asked).

Big G, Only if the ecu firmware and software supports it !
There is little point modifying aftermarket stuff.

Aftermarket ecu's generally try to do "everything" these days so yes !

Besides, mapping software for aftermarket ecu's is so much better and user friendly these days and anyone can use them !
(Except emerald and DTA..lol)

Thats interesting ! Thanks.

I suspect they will demand university qualifications which I do not have
Still, I will definitely have a look !

Andy,
I dont repair them myself so I dont see why you would say that as Mike knows this ? !
Everyone has my phone number and are free to call or text me if I am needed.
Mike did ask me to contact "someone" recently and I did but have had no reply back but that was on another matter as far as I know ????
If I can help anyone when I am able to then I will on here or by phone (for free of course)

hi simon i know you do not repair or make them any more but mike did say that a bloke called spence makes & repairs them but he has made a load & repaired mine but none of them work & he does not know how to fix it .

so this is where i hope you would come in & point this spence in the right direction , i hope this explains my question a bit better now
thanks ANDY

Andy,

Ok this is the first I have heard of this. I do know spence changed his number and mike gave me a new one but I have tried calling and sending messages but no reply.
I did call in to his house the other day but no one was home.
I will send Mr Rainbird my new phone number and see if he can pass it on !
