Default Question for the tuners....

Looking at buying the internals for my zetec conversion. All I have at the moment is a standard early mondeo 2.0 zetec with FRST inletmanifold and beige injectors.

As I'm gonna be turboing it, want to reduce the compression so I can run a reasonable ammount of boost, but what pistons and rods should I use?

Got to bare in mind that I'm going for silly power and most likely will not want to take the engine out to get the rods and pistons done again.

So who recommends what and where can I get it

Mountune sells mountune gear, unfortunatley mountune dont make their own gear, they get other companys to.

Why dont you just go buy a car thats easy to get 350bhp+ from in the first place rather than fuck about starting from scratch and spending a fortune to make an a car that cant handle the power it produces

Why not buy a Macca F1 LM that is built to handle 600bhp rather than some old Datsun

serious mate, its just hit the point where the car is off for painting, I'll soon have a bare shell back waiting for the engine to go in, so I'm starting to look about for the bits I need to start doing it, want to get someone to build the engine, just dunno who is gonna do that either

Shatit you fookin spacco What a gay reply

I meant why spend all the money (hes starting from scratch so WONT be cheap) and still end up with a car that has fuck all traction or handling.

IMO hed be better off starting with a Cossie or a SX or dare say it, a Scooby.

GTRs were built for GrpA (My one was the part of the first set made for homologation reasons) and were made to handle 650bhp in GrpA form, and reason i got one, and reason they do so well, as they are about the best allround base for mental power there is for any remotley sensible amount of money.

Only reason i got rid of the Cossie as it worked out all round better for the cash for the performance (not power, performance, 2 VERY different things) i wanted for me to get the GTR rather than keep spending on the cossie.

Only reason for any car in my eyes is performance per pound, i buy with my head not my heart.

WTF you mention macca F1s for? Yea, they greeeat value for money

And why mention 600bhp? Be closer if you turned the 6 the other way round.

stu focuscentral pistons will be fine mate, just get a decent mapper to sort it, besides tbh 350bhp in a fwd car is pointless, especially in a cabrio

oh and why not get a 1.8 escort inlet manifold as ya need the sump of a 1.8 escort anyway and thats a direct fitment

think steve has got a very good point !!!!!

hence why i never finished my cabrio, too much money for what i was gonna get in return

oh and if ya do decide to get a 350bhp cabrio, get a prgressive boost controller,NOT a manual that make the boost come in with a bang

Yeah what power will he be running? 500 or 600?

ginge if your talking about traction I was thinking of solving that problem with a longer ratio box, will slow the acceleration down, but will mean it would be easier to keep traction and will give a higher top speed. but not sure how practical this would be.

See these Aftermarket ECU's with traction control built into them, but dunno how you would implement that on a mk4 cabby and throttle controled TC is just a waste of time, unless someone else thinks differently.

I'm gonna wait till I have lost my points (2008) before going for a "proper" car.

stu taction control cuts the power , progressive boost controller like the blitz id3( like what i got ) and used in conjunction with the blitz id3 power meter ( oh look i got one of them aswell ) will allow ya to set the boost up for different wheel speeds, ie no full boost at 10mph ect

thats what ya want matey

Mac- No matter what box n diff you use, no matter what TC, no matter anything, it still will be bad, esp in a cabby, and 350bhp isnt all that mental anyhow, not enough to set the world alight, but enough to cost a fortune and make it pretty undrivable.
I mean, a high power FWD lights em up in 3rd with ease in the dry, so what you saying, have 1st as long as 3rd, 2nd as long as 4th, and so on? NO, cause if you thought about all this properly youl see that longer gears wont make much bloody difference, youl either be slow by wheelspin, or slow by driving round with horrendously high gearing (may as well just drive round in 4th n 5th, same effect).

Sunny is doing it as his WILL be special, and he has loads of cash to waste on things like that. Hes not stupid, hes doing it to be a FWD record breaker, he would use RWD or 4x4 if he didnt want it FWD for a REASON.

If your declaring that mods to the insurance itd be as expensive as a "proper" car anyhow, and if your not, why not start with a base car that HAS potential (like somthing thats not FWD, like a sierra shell) and go from there.

If you wanna be different, get any old sierra shell, XR4 susp, Cossie Box, diff, and Brakes, Std 302ci Windsor V8, and a twin turbo blow thru carb setup. 500bhp/500lb/ft+ with ease and much cheapness.

Your talking Autronic, steel rods, forged pistons, blah blah, 1000s and 1000s of pounds in a shonky old FWD girls car, and still wont be that special or fast, and youl seriously regret it.

Its different if you already halfway there, its different if you wernt spending loads, its different if it was going to be somthing special with a point to prove, but none of the above apply so it makes no sence.

Your crazy mate, if you got cash to spend on having fun, do it wisely

why do ya feel ya need 350bhp though ?????

i know its a nice figure for the bottom of ya reg plate ect but tbh a standard zetec engine like philm's or lewis will be more than powerfull enough, are ya more into motorway driving or short country roads ect

tbh im thinking of seriously dithcing the cossie and going back to a hairdressers car but only cause my cabrio is practically mint, rust free and has still got most the stuff on it, just needs a engine and i gopt a well and truely sorted car

its down to you mate but remember i only payed 600 notes for my full service history, new engined ( which i ripped straight out anyway ) tennis cabrio with kit, bonnet and half leathers, thats not a rare price either, if ya paitent like i was ya will find em

think sell the cabby on and buy a car already done and then have fun

have ya seen that giy selling jons2erst's car for sale, 4250 for a complete car !!!!, all done, get in and drive away

No, you 'THINK' thats what you want....

Will be an absolute money pit SHED! and will never work properly...

Sorry, just trying to help YOU!!!

I WISH someone would have told me to have just bought a GT3 or a Radical or a Caterham AND an Exige instead of a 600bhp Sierra....

AND I STILL LIKE MY SIERRA coz its cool and FAST! Your car won't be.....

Cus its something nobody else has.

I understand what you guys are trying to say, but I just have a severe mental block when it comes to get rid of it.

And Ginge the shell I have for the cabby is mint, not a spot of rust on it.

And another annoying thing I have found is that local council wont tow away a shell

But if Sunny can make a stupid fast FWD car, I dont see why I can't!! Just in a cabby and not quite as fast.
