Looks like a Series 1 33 GTR. Depends on if you want to just get into an R or get the best for the model, Series 3 with the xenons and different colour stitching on the recaros amongst other little goodies would be where I would aim.

Don't be under the illusion that because it was built in Japan that is has an iffinite life though and they are still cossie money when they break at a minimum. Plenty of bang for the buck though. I am in the skyline club here so there are several amongst my mates (read 100+!). If you need to know anything specific, let me know and will ask them.

depends what parts ur buying, the r32 gtr my gf bought to do up from the place she was working has cost her a shit loads more than she thought/they told her it would need in parts, and has now just cost her the best part of Ł600 to get it thru the MOT!! and thats just rear ball joints for the rack, front bushes and a tiny hole that needed welding!! The ball joints alone were Ł70 each but are pressed in so its about 2hrs a side and not something i/we could have done and she left the wankers she was working for a month ago so couldnt do it there!!

She hasnt spent more than its worth but more than she planned too, althou now at least its had a top end rebuild and new hybrid turbos etc!

yeah the rear ball joints need a hot spanner i chucked it all in the bin and put the driftworks eliminator on.

some parts are more, some are less its swings and roundabouts tbh mate.

Yea she wanted to do that too but the time/labour to sort out all the pipework etc ontop of buying the lockout bar was more than she could afford, was hoping for it to go thru as it had been sitting in a workshop for 1 1/2yrs!!

ive just relaced all my sensors on my cossie cost about Ł250ish, my mate said a skyline rb26 cam sensor is around Ł600 on its own!! and the air flow meters are around Ł500 i would dread to see the price of the rest!

scooby slayer, i have nothing against you, and i really liked your saph!!

but when it comes to rebuild between a skyline to a yb how can it be close.

6 pistons 6 rods more shells biger gaskets.... i would like to see the price of 24 valve guides and stem seals... 2 cam tension wheels.. 6 injectors.. all adds up..

and you dont really benfit from power or torque over a cossie..

i thought about selling my escort to buy a r34 gtr but i wanted 450bhp from the skyline rb26 which to be fair it doesnt need much bit to make that power but the price of the few parts to make it 450bhp was exactly that same as building a cossie at that power..

the price for these compents was alot of money

cams
full exhaust
airfilters
hardpipes
ecu+ power fc
boost controler
injectors
headgasket
tripple plate clutch
rb25 airflow meters

easy bits to fit on but it over 3k for this lot and the turbos could pop at anytime..

ive decided to stay with the old escort!!

you dont need different cams for 450 bhp. dont need power fc rsp do a chip.
dont need headgasket. 450 is feck all for an rb.

i bought my z32 afms for Ł150 delivered good for 800 bhp.
putting it simply i got 11.5k for my cos, skyline stands me in at 10.5k with a pro built engine 4 seconds quicker 30 - 130, the cos was running 2.2 bar im running 1.45 in the skyline ! those are the facts mate.
they are a completely different animal.

i dont know what you mean about dont benefit from power or torque ? the bhp and torque spread of my car is immense, its driveable with huge ammounts of both !

im now looking at a rips twin pump surge tank fuel system, get my tubs up to 1.8 bar should see 620 bhp.

now go out and find a 600 bhp escort cosworth for 11k ! it aint gonna happen, i was looking at them 20k plus for a 600+ bhp escos.

your blinkers are still firmly set in place mate, ive lost mine now and there are far better cars out there for the money believe me.

the ultimate is a 2jz gte or a rips rb30 bottom end with an rb26 head on it. i will have one or the other within the next 3 years. gotta have 1000 bhp before i am 40

you dont need cams or tripple plate clutch for 450 bhp out of a RB26 mate but you do need a FPR

you can get to 450 alot cheaper than 3k especially if you can source second hand parts

ive just built a rb25 that will do 700 bhp

forged rods /pistons 1k
clutch Ł650
head work Ł500
gaskets Ł450
n1 oil pump Ł360
n1 water pump Ł180
poncams Ł650
arp studs ect Ł500

thats 4k but i will not run it at that horse power but if i wanted to another 2.5k for a turbo and better ecu such as vipec its there and it will be reliable ! but i dont see a point in that much power for a rwd track car tbh

scooby slayer i dont dislike skylines i think there great but i think its all the same old shit with cost etc and also bhp as cossies thats my argument.. if you get me.. i dont think a escort cosworth can be compared to a r32 purely because there newer etc as the r32 are the same age and price as saphs, so really its comparing a 600bhp saph to a 600bhp r32.. both around 10k to 12k

its interesting the parts you say you dont need to change for 450bhp... as you know my best mate has a r32 gtr which i have worked on loads of times... he on the gtr forum i think his forum name is ashskyline32 you may have spoken to him, but he could only get 385bhp on the standard cams and at 385bhp the injectors where at like 95%duty, it shit a standard clutch then once he changed the ecu and injectors he hit 450bhp then the airflow meters where maxed out at a dangerous level and the ceramic turbos wheels could fall out any time.. then the standard bottom pulley shit it self so hes had to buy a uprated pulley...

his ows him 8k by this point.. hes going 600bhp now, should be fun!!

i do like driving his cars its weird you dont really feel the boost come in but its there very early and there longer as its only like 1.1bar but like its there nearly all the rev range.. it gets it speed that way..

the cossie feels far more agressive but probly not as fast as his.. but to be fair i should buy a gt30 rather than my tt38 for 450bhp to compare..

well it cant be a very quick one mate ive had a 500 hp 3 door and my gtr pins me in the seat harder than that did. drive a cossie with 1.1 bar and it wont be very lively, but get 1.7 - 1.8 bar spike then there lively.

a 600 bhp 4x4 saph could not be bought for 11k no way. i dont think it could still be on the standard tranny

another point in the equation of cost im running over 550 on a standard box, how much would a box cost for a saph / escort to cope with 600 bhp, 480 lbft ?

i love cossies but there not the be all and end all mate.

your comparison of his gtr is a stage 1 so compare that to a stage 1 saph.

i agree it is the same old shit with cost, they will both cost money to run / maintain but overall the cost shouldnt be much different with sensible buying obviously.

i would like a cheap stage 3 rwd saph for larking about though

i think the only way to compare cars is what they were intended for ! the r32 was designed to beat everything back in the day and although it did it didnt beat the rs 500 as well as they thought it would . Here is a vid where you can see that both cars are driven well but the extra 150+ bhp and 4wd the skyline had it didnt exactly rape the cossie

you should do you research better pal lol

seriously though mate i remember rod saying they got rs500 up to 570 tops, and r32s were 640 tops, so 70 bhp more but a bit heavier and 4x4 too hence why they did win but not by a huge margine

and thats not me backing any corner those are just the facts.

i just found a bit of info

a atc nismo 32 was tested and made 641 bhp, 1/4 mile 10.9, 0 - 60 3.2 seconds.

I'd just get yourself a decent GTS-T if that's the type of car you want. People are quick to diss them against a GT-R, but they're not a bad car in their own right. Turbocharged, RWD, remind me a lot of a Saff in many ways, apart from the fact that a half-decent one is cheaper. Although cost of parts may be higher.
