New TV, plasma or LCD??
Hello all,
I will be buying a new TV in 2 weeks time and have narrowed the search down to these 2 TV sets,
one plasma and one LCD
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/adv...G10-Plasma-TVs
priced at £999
or
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t46-w-series/kdl-52w5500
priced at £1300
Not sure which one to go for
Iv'e always fancied a Sony LCD but I can't get away from the fact the plasma is by far the better picture quality.....
Can anyone share there experiences with Plasma vs LCD??
My viewing distance will be -
Xbox HD - 2 metres
Movies - 6 metres (night time in darkness)
the set will be in a dark corner of the room with no reflection from a window.....
it's just a lot of money to pay to take a chance without the research

Out of those i'd have none but if i had to i'd have the plasma but im sure you could get a samsung led backlit one for the price of the lcd
I've got a samsung led and its better than lcd and plasma by a long shot and on blu-ray it amazing
But you pays your money you takes your choice , and at the end of the day why should you buy a tv that we all like or dont , when your going to be watching it , NOT us lot !

what are you on about? the LED tv is an LCD...
the plasma still produces the best picture quailty specially with motion and hardly any lag or ghosting...
read any of the reviews on avforum and the plasma's from the likes of panasonic are still way ahead but yet we already knew this anyway

LED tv's are just LCD screens but lit by led's instead of cold cathode/ flourescent tube. IMO not worth the hype!
Generally, above 42" go for plasma, below 42" then get an LCD. Plasmas are better for bright rooms as they have a much brighter picture than LCD, and they also have a greater viewing angle, so something to think about if you have a sofa that is side on to the telly

dont worry about burn in, simply create a dvd on your PC of a pure white screen, then leave that on for a few hours and it will get rid of any burn in marks, but saying that, leave my plasma on all the time, and never see any burn in, i have panasonic btw 1 year old

Magic!! just as I thought almost all are swaying toward the plasma.......Roll on 2 weeks time Yeyy!!
thanks for the comments peeps =]
All my friends only have LCD so I had little to compare to the plasma. Having had a decent look around the plasma is untouchable at that size and yes 2 seats in the house are side on the set.
Also it will be going on the wall a couple of month after buying it so I believe LCD will 'darken' off at the angle.

stay away from plasma, great technology but eventually loose their gas. Between LCD and LED. LED is a far better technology but its expensive. For a 40" Samsung LED you are looking at £1200 (tesco).. But the picture is outstanding and the blacks are now black!! (got one!)

Gas leaks < real real tears
got a 42"G10 here, and for the money when i was looking at them all it beat everything picture wise IMO, paid £625 from M&s with 5 yrs warrenty.
Im sure the 50" can be had for a bit less than £999 with 5yrs warrenty
May be worth look at the G15 version, as im sure you get stuff like iplayer built in?

My plasma does do the image adjust to prevent screen burn, but it did happen when the telly was new quite a bit. Now its almost 2 years old and don't seem to have a problem any more.
There is a setting in the menu though that lets you select the white screen, leave it on that for a while and all the burn in disappears!

gotta be a panasonic plasma.. soo pleased with mine and the prices have come down so much....
or another way is to use the analogue tuner and leave the static of an untuned channel on.... i have only had a faint mark once. on my panasonic plasma... i have my pc connected and stupidly didn't have a screen saver. left the tv showing the windows screen all night (10 hours) and came down the next day. you could very very faintly see the windows task bar.. couple of min of static and all clear!
another vote for panasonic! my friend has a lg plasma and the picture is tosh!

i tend to get screen burn if i'm watching with the subtitles on and widescreen bars top and bottom
just putting it on a normal full screen channel and it's gone in a few minutes
same with putting the sky live pause of for ages, normal picture sorts it out in a few minutes
