Who told you that? The guy selling it me thinks!
If any model was not available as an official UK supplied car it will need a SVA, The skyline was never an officail UK release mores the pity

A personal import vehicle under 10 years old without a Certificate of Conformity must undergo a Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test on arrival in the UK. This is really for those emigrating to the UK with their cars - look at the DVLA website for a full list of conditions. Note: from 17 June 2003 motorbikes, tricycles and quadricycles need either type approval or an SVA test.
Vehicles more than three years old which pass the SVA will also need an MOT test. Vehicles more than 10 years old don't need an SVA, as they're exempt from type approval, but they will need an MoT.
If you don't meet the criteria for a 'personal importer', your vehicle will have to undergo an SVA test. But you may be able to get this in another EC country (if that's more convenient). For the full lowdown on the SVA, download DVLA leaflet SVA4 and read booklet P15.

Don't throw the jap log book out as that proves age (in their wierd, year of the emperor kinda way )
As has been said, no SVA required for cars over 10 years old.
Mot, Insurance, Jap log book and a V55/5 with reg fee & tax
Job done

Phil,
the car should have.....
Deregistration docs from Japan to prove its been deregistered there.
Paper work to prove import tax/VAT has been paid (if it hasn't you'll be liable for it when it comes to registering as this is docs they ask for).
If the car is under 10 years old and is quite modded it won't be easy to get thru a SVA ( I had the same problem with a modded RX7, but the Evo 7 , R34 and Legacy were all std and very easy to get thru with only slight mods )
