Erm... standard rst's (even 3i's) will run over 100 in 4th without doing that?

You do not need double valve springs to do 100 in 4th on a cvh
Yours must have been seriously weakened to do that. When you say evidence is clear, how so? Was it definitly valve bounce or is it possible the valve head has dropped off?

edit: not trying to argue, just clarify

i would say bounce but its not impossible for the head to av dropped off, but ass the stem was slightly bent i imagine the head must av come into contact with the piston while still attached to the stem although its poss it could have made contact with it from travellin on the piston, i knew nothin of the engine b4 i got it could av been original springs 4 all i kno, the bloke i got it off also said it had a full arp kit on it which was also bollox

tbh as soon as i see the oil cap had blown off i knew it was pretty terminal lol an if i wasnt so impressed with the damage i would av cried instead of laugh lol, there were bits of piston in unimaginable places, even a bit forced up the side of a lifter, the turbo blades were covered in molten alloy an every pot was scored
u live an learn tho lol

you mean the bent stem of the valve, after the cylinder got lean so ran super hot after detting and theheat found a weak point in the valve head for it to fall off and smahs you pistons up

id imagine the bent stem wasbecuase of whats left of the vale head being thrown around in the chamber and your engine revving still at high rpm lol

but it is shit when it happens as its happened twice on me on my old rs turbos

when you get a new engine go efi

so i keep gettin told mate, like i said i only assumed drawing a conclusion on wot i found but v poss i was wrong, also poss i was right tho, i took it up to an beyond that many times an for longer periods tbh lean didnt cross my mind due to the healty colour of the rest of the pistons an valves, surely if it was runnin lean it would be lean on all cylinders
