Craig

I was extra careful not to touch the chips, only held it at each end.

On the card it says: DDRR 184pin PC2100 256mb

I will try swapping them

Need to make sure both sticks are the same type and even though it sounds obvious make sure it's properly seated in the slot. I used to get the blue screen of death every now and then. No idea why. Then one day thought I'm sick of only have 256mb of RAM and went and bought the same again. Opened up the PC and found that I already had 512 I'd just left a stick in there for months not properly in the slot and totally forgotten I had it. I have no idea to this day how I missed that. I'm supposed to know what I'm doing

I built this PC myself!

Try not to mix RAM....never a good idea!!! Also cheap RAM has a tendancy to go tits up - at least try to buy Major on Third stuff!!!

nuts, DO NOT RUN FDISK THRU RUN...COMMAND!!!!!

you need to be in pure DOS or you'll fuck it up (thats if itll even run!)

change current fixed drive to the drive you wanna partition, then delete any partitions that are on it already (probably none tho) then add a primary partition (option1) of max size

then bob's your mother's brother

ps this new partition will now need formatting, but it should now appear as having a drive letter

ps it's easier in 2K/XP as you can partition/format it all in windows without having to run the text based fdisk program (for those that are interested its in control panel-admin tools-computer management)

Jim im still here - I have closed the Run > Command down now then
change current fixed drive to the drive you wanna partition, then delete any partitions that are on it already

How do I do that ? I take it its from one of the 5 options FDISK gives me ??

Jim shouldn't he initialize it first? I had to do that with my new one before I could format it and have it show in my computer.
