Anyone else heard of the intended rota changes?
Heard them today and fucking annoyed! Most of my store will leave and I am going to do the same! Is it the same in other stores?
And anyone know for sure about the opt out sunday?

You can opt out of working Sundays, its European Working Time rules and what not...
But most retail companies would look dimly on it.
I obviously dont know what you do... but in the current market - leaving ... not exactly the brightest idea.
At least you have a job.

im not trying to be lairy im just saying as with all things like this everyone around you will say they are going to leave.
They never do and everyone just moans about it for the next 20 years they are there.
If youre that upset use this experience as a springboard into a better job and let them keep bitching about it.
Ir let someone else do youre job that actually wants too.

Been offered another job thanks boys
And there's no shortage of jobs round my way in the motor sector? Not sure how bad it is up North?
Just quite like my current job role.
Officially out of recession today as well, never noticed it in my line of work to be honest.
Bamo - Ill tell you when I see you.

Halfords do standard retail park opening hours.
9-8 Mon - Fri
9-6 Sat
10-4/11-5 Sun
I would imagine you would do a 9 hour shift 5 days a week or 6 on a Sunday.
45 - 48 hours Max
I imagine the rota would be split 9-6 (30min lunch 2x15min breaks) and 11-8 with the same breaks.
Saturdays 9-6 9 Hours worked
Sunday 6 hours worked
Depending on the size and how busy the store is there may also be a 10-7 shift to ensure the busy rush hour 5-7pm slot had maximum staffing levels.
I dont see how there could be a possible problem
At the store managers discrestion what hours you worked could be spread over days that you didn't particularly like or make it so that you didn't have 2 days off together.
Thats the shakes of working retail, a good manager may be able to resolve this issue with the staff and negotiate however ultimatly staff shall work to the demands of the business.
Its possible that there are other constraints on head count and staffing allowance... or he could just fancy a change.
That is pretty much retail management of staff - I used to run a team of 12 plus 1 repair 1 admin and 1 installer at a retail park Carphone Warehouse.

Shings -Indeed you are right on general times/hours. Halfords have early/late shifts of 9-5.30 and 11.30-8 and you have to work one weekend on, one off with a day off during the week, every week. As you noted, this works perfectly fine and always has done, but changes are to be made.
I am hoping the manager can work out a few things for at least a few of us. And yes opting out sundays has been unoffically frowned upon to the point where the rumour is you can forget progression/a career if you do so.

Opting out is officially telling a company you work for that you dont want to work when they need you to... not exactly rocket science that you aint a team player.
You can also opt out of working more than 50 hours a week which is European Maxiumum.
The changes that are made will just mean those that have set days off cant have them anymore...
Do you have a new manager - this normally happens when a new manager takes over... he'll come round if enough people explain their concerns - unless the store is a trouble store and has loads of troublesome staff he wants to fuck off.
Not that I would ever have done anything like that before - everything must remain transparent and clear.

Shings - Yes I understand the retial environment, I do a lot of extra hours (unpaid!) etc... In order to show this. Just what they are doing is not reasonable IMO.
Its not a manager thing either, I am part of the managment team. Halfords got an American analyst company in to highlight where the compnay could make more money essentially. It came back with a report which basically said rota changes were the best way of increasing productivity.

I remember back in the day i always saw halfords staff wondering around in the retail carpark fitting peoples batterys/ bulbs, but now they charge Ł4-5 ive never seen any staff outside
Do you actually have many people agree'ing to pay Ł4 to fit a bulb? out of interest

As you dont 'sell' as such, only advise - generally if asked as well... I dont understand how a Rota change will provide more sales.
For an operation like Halfords and from a customer perspective I would suggest that having the right number of people on the shop floor and tills at the right time is the way to do it, each store will have peak trading days and times which could easily be analized and then effective working patterns produced on a store by store basis, you'd have to allow the management team access to this - but its how CPW works... and to be fair it aint rocket science.
What exactly are the intended rota changes that are being moaned about????? Retail industry is renowned for shitty working hours and changing systems that appear to be working fine
think the idea is to loose the part time staff at the weekends and have more experienced staff at the busy times,,, aka the weekends rather than 3/4's of staff being hung over students
as for the " be lucky you got a job" ive been offered 5 jobs so far in the last 3 weeks,,,,, 2 places so desperate for staff offering good money and was calling me every day for a week leaving me messages and emailing me !
so much for " count yourself lucky you got a job" bollocks employers are comming out with

XRT si,
Sorry mate but you know you should not be talking about this on a public forum.
All managers have been warned of consequences of information leaking out and so have the union.
If you study the info correctly you can work it in your favour,
Nick

Managers have been warned, other staff have not as we have heard it from 'hear say' essentially.
EVERYONE in my area is aware of the changes, before the sunday meeting date.

Yes mate I am a manager on area 24, opting out of sundays is not an option as you would then have to work EVERY Saturday.
It can work in your favour with 2 days off together during the week

The meeting was utter poo, basically, by what we were told, me being a part timer means i have nothing to do with this apart from we're all going to be called 'sales support' or something instead of out department things.
