Default Blanking off an egr valve

How do people? Iv just bought a 56 plate mondeo st 2.2 estate knowing how bad the reliability of the EGR is as my work vans had 3 in a year..........they must be realy bad as ford give them to the AA as a van stock item.......Anyway iv heard stories of blanking them off or totaly removing them if its removed then therfore it cant go wrong but is the any problems caused by removing it?

couldn't tell you how it's done on a ford but my mates just done it on his MG ZS it's only there for emmisions, if no one else comes up with more info i'll drop him a txt and see what he says about it all but from what i remember it's all good it stops the inlet track getting coked up with crap and running cleaner

we blanked ours off on mondeo 2.0 tdci it was relatively easy, burnt through after a month or so, but it was ok after that

undone 2x 10mm bolts, took gasket off, made a template of the gasket out of a coke tin, without centre hole, put it back in and hey presto.

could always tell when it burnt through because itd chug n black smoke!

right, they can be blanked off,but not removed, if yours has wire on the end of the EGR then you might and i stress might have a problem with the engine managment light coming on (glowplug light) as said, £3.00 off ebay, 25 mins to fit max even at an amature level.

When/if you fit one you woud well to clean out the inlet manifold aswell as these clog up just like the EGR and lead to poor MPG.

There is a small thread on here already about this, ill go and find it for you.

Basicaly it take burnt exhaust gasses and recycles them, thats all, there will be some, very small gain in performance, pulls better, stronger with less noticable flat spots, but more MPG which can never be a bad thing.

Take a gander> https://passionford.com/forum/genera...g-updated.html

is there any need to have a remap after? if your ecu expects egr to work and is not there wont that cause fault codes?

If it's a vacuum controlled egr then no, but if electronic then yes it will flag a fault code.

You can blank off egr on euro 4 engines witout fault code. Only use stainless stell, as normal steel rust from condensation from exhaust and if it got an hole in it and some come loose, it will og in the inlet and can damage valves and seats

I've just bought a plate to blank off our mk4 mondeo 2.0 tdci. I'm expecting it to throw the eml light after a few trips due to the way they work on this engine but i want to see how much difference it makes. For £3 i had to give it a try

Our mondeo is an 09 plate so i assume its the same engine as a kuga? The peugeot engine.

Maybe it will be ok?

I have done it on many cars at work. When the first egr problems pop up years ago, we was told by Ford to blank them
