Talking Snowed in so I was bored last night and got the camera out

I've been snowed in since Tuesday night so by last night I was bored and decided to play with the camera

This is the lampost outside my house

Then today I noticed these

I don't recall seeing anything like this before though My wife noticed it earlier. Shame I forgot to measure how long it is

Anyone else got any cool photos from the cold weather?

Is your attic loft insulated if so WHY does your roof melt the snow

It's insulated as far as I can tell and it's bloody cold up there. No idea, when the weather gets warmer I need to investigate it further because it's bloody cold here. Having a garage underneath the house doesn't help with it getting cold in here.

Very nice Was that rested on the mirror and can you remember roughly what settings you were using? I love shots like that, a friend of mine took one like it (without the snow) on the isle of man a few years ago.

Easy as pie, just walk outside and take a picture of your roof and next-doors roof

If they have snow, and you dont YOUR paying to melt it

I can't see my roof that easily especially from that side but I will be taking a look tomorrow. I think you might be onto something because it's a 3 story town house and the top floor is always the warmest but it doesn't get hot in the winter. I've always blamed the garage under the house but I'll check it out tomorrow.

Thanks

I couldn't wait so I've just been outside and our house has more snow on the front roof than our neighbours and the rear roof is still covered. The rear doesn't really get too much sun though so I think it's the amount of snow we have had

I am quite pleased the snow up there hasn't melted, I was worried there because of how cold it gets. I guess it's still the garage

Old photo from this time last year

We had a VERTICAL icicle in our bird-bath last year, pointing UP, about 3-4" long. Must find the pic, still don't really know how it happened.

apparantly its to do with the water at the edge freezing, thus expanding, pushing the remaining water up slowly. the more that freezes the more that gets pushed up (surface tension and all that shite) and it makes a spike in the middle once the whole things frozen. boring eh

Forgot I posted in here lol, settings were ISO800, f/6.3, 1/15 shutter speed, handheld and 10mm.

I had the white balance set to flash for some reason, which gives the blueness. Nothing has been touched in photoshop, its straight from the camera.

It's an Alfa too, think a 147?
