Question Pump removing + electric water pump

On a zetec engine:

If a zetec engine has both power steering and aircon, and i remove both of these and move alternator to the front, will i still need to run the belt via an idler to make water pump spin the right way, or will removing two pumps mean it doesnt reverse the direction?

Fitting into mk4 escort. Ideally i'd like the alternator to stay at the back if i can help it/make it fit.

I am actually considering getting an electric pump controlled by ecu, for effectiveness, neatness and 'simplicity'. Which obviously make my question pointless, but im seeing my options first.

If i go electric, should i just remove the impeller from the belt driven pump to give an empty housing and fit the electric inline somewhere? Or is there other ways to do it?

Also, how tricky to use mondeo engine mount on mk4 escort?

And where do electric water pumps/kits etc?

i put the alt on the rear of my zetec, modded the alt mount off the 1.6 pinto that was in the 3dr originally

what zetec is it?

if its a 2.0l silvertop and has the std 2.0l water pump, then this will need to spin in reverse, or be swapped for a 1.8 one.

if you go electric then you may want to remove the impellor, but i dont know how much of a restriction it would be to leave it as is.

only thing with an electric pump is the possibility of failure.

It's 1.8 blacktop. Dont think that mount would work cause of space in mk4 engine bay and the engine mount bolts on where it sits, might be a tight squeeze. I'll have a play soon and post my results.

If it's a pain still having to reverse pump direction then i'll just take impellor out and go for electric. Reliabilty isnt an issue as it'll be a new pump and i'll not be using the car everyday, its something to play with. I'll rack up some miles going to shows and generally driving round, but only when weather is good and stuff.

im sure you can set up your dash to light up a fault light if water pump dies. quicker indication than engine temp going through roof which you might not notice for a couple mins.

You need this from www.trackdesigns.co.uk.

This is what i use on my blacktop.

You can buy a kit for keeping the PAS or removing.

Looks a nice bit of kit. But tbh i only paid 100quid for full engine with all ancils and manifolds wiring etc. Don't fancy spendin £205 on a bracket kit!!

I might make a mount using mk4 one i've got so that i can still have it at the back. Or make a mount on body to line up with blacktop side mount.

Need my gearbox so i can temp hang the engine and measure stuff up. Rather it was at back to keep wiring hidden etc, plus it'll get hot with turbo.

That belt in the picture comes with the kit.

I'll be using standard belt as im making the car fit the engine. It'll be future proof then.

belts should not be a problem for future as most car parts places will be able to get you a belt to any length you need you just measure the length and count the ribs and they will get you the belt
i use general traffic in preston for all my belts ask for martin

I was meaning the car will be future proof by being made to fit all the newer mechanical bits as they were supposed to be fitted.

Also makes swapping VERY easy.
