Two of my mates have evo 9 320's that have been tuned to about 420 and they just thrash the life outof them then park them up ready for the next day and i just cant do that with the cossie. so if i got one it would probly get tuned to about the same as theres.

I went from a 3dr cossie to a evo as much as i loved the 3dr it was a very expensive ornament and when it did go out something would brake

had the evo 2 years now and was used everyday for the 1st year and no major problems at all and still running sweet as a nut so if i was you a would get the evo but i would deffo get a 9 with the mivec engine or just go hardcore and get a 5 or 6

I test drove a IX FQ340 & loved it, such an easy car to drive fast. It does everything you want a car to do, good brakes, great handling & stella performance. The IX doesn't look to bad either.

The trouble is when I look at the Escort it makes me feel 18 again & that is why I can't sell up & buy the Evo even though its a better car.

I did,

Sold my Escos and bought an Evo VII FQ300.

Just said all this in another thread but if you want something to drive every day then go for the Evo.
If however you want something that looks stunning and will only keep its money if you have it locked in the garage to keep the miles down then keep the Escos.

I like to use what i have paid for and get the benefit of it hence the change.

Since then the Evo's gone, a 22b has come and gone and i now have an M3 CSL (best car i have ever owned)

It's one of those decisions that you have to make with your head rather than your heart i'm affraid.

Wish i could afford to have kept all my cars and have them tucked away in storage.

great cars,, it dosn't have to be an FQ340 either, you'd be just as well off with an MR FQ300 & modding it from there, the MR comes with better cams etc....

If you want to get some more use out of it then do it, best evo I've had was a 9 GT which will blow your mind after driving an Escos.

8 MR models also very good, plus they can all be got to about 380/380 without going and spending a fortune just need the right exhaust, remap, fueling and filter.

If you can find a 9 Gt it will hold its value well, most of them got turned into Group N rally cars so not many left (my one also did which was a bit of a shame for such a nice car).

The horrific depreciation of these cars in their first 2 yrs has passed now so you wont lose huge amounts, of course it wont hold a firm value like the escos though - but made up for in more useable/newer/quicker etc.

but then you always worry about using an escos eg;

dont want to use it in the bad weather (it will get salty and dissolve in a pile of rust. or some idiot might run into it in the snow/ice)

dont want to leave it parked when off doing other things (cinema/shops etc)

dont want to take it on track if it gets bent panels cant easily be replaced

dont want to drive it hard it will blow up / break down again

etc, the list goes on!

All of the above reasons to sell it and buy a newer car for using, or lock it away and buy something cheap/fun to use.

Default hi

i baught a white evo9 gt , have to say its one of the best cars i have ever had , its running 450/400 autronic ecu different cams different rods and pistons , and the good thing is dont have to spend 8k on diffs and box to handel the power,
my 680 bhp escort cossie road car was a great car but i love the evo, how ever the 680 escort engine is going into my proper built escort cossie track car , with proper hard core transmishion..

many thanks steven.

my mate has just sold his 7 and bought an 8, they aren't my sort of car, but have to say that they just seem completely different to an escos.

For me, I see an escos as something you will worry about, will feel you HAVE to look after it and keep it cherrished. That it isn't a given it will just start and go when you jump in.

The evo on the other hand just seems to be the sort of car that can be an every day motor, it isn't a rare sight and can be spanked and then jumped in the next day and go do it again.

i certainly wouldn't say they make shit drivers look good. especially if you buy an evo without AYC. But the fact they have a very good chassis and good suspension setup makes them alot 'easier' to drive fast.

If your a shit driver your always gonna be shit no matter what you drive

Typical quote from someone whos never had an evo. They are far far far more capable cars then any old ford you own... hence why it may seem that they are easier to drive. Truth is they get from point to point so much quicker than most cars on the road but they still keep you on your toes i can assure you of that.

Exactly. At the end of the day, a quick driver will drive the Evo from point A to point B quicker than a poor driver.

How does say an Evo 8 compare to an Impreza Sti of the same year? I've had an Impreza but have always fancied an Evo, and they're generally considered a bit more capable than the Scooby as standard.

well we had an evo 4 gsr and a 2003 uk prodrive sti and for fast twisty roads the evo was far superior!!but comfort the scoob.
i felt the evo when driving fast changing gear catches the next gear on boost alot better than the scoob....unless really reving its guts out it bogs slightly.
ive sold an 02 wrx,03 wrx and that 03 prodrive sti and the evo 4 was far better imho.

Well i like my old fords and always will i do like evos but i will always have a ford. I will stick to my cossie cause the bits r cheaper for them and they are easier to work on. Correct ive never owned 1 but i used to work on mitsubushi for nearly 6 months and ive drove plenty so i know how they drive.

Glenny i've had both and i can say without a shadow of doubt that in the long run a evo will cost you less. I did more miles in my evo in a year than i managed in my cossie in 3 and it cost me much less!!!

AlanD in my experience the evos are a bit less comfortable but ultimately quicker up a back road as well. You'd want a evo for a blast and a scoob for a long run. Saying that i hate the noise of a subaru so could never own one i dont think.

Aw I loved mine mate, but each to their own I suppose. From reading before I'm guessing you might be from around Hamilton way? Last time I was in Motherwell I saw a white Evo 8 or 9 with white wheels. It was stunning! Do you know the car?

Cheers. The only thing with the differences there is the weight difference. There will be quite a lot between the Evo 4 and a Newage scooby I would think? But I suppose that doesn't make a difference to the way it comes on boost.

How long will it stay standard with mark shead as your mate? wise move i loved my evo as well another regret selling it.& would i own another yes if i had the money it would be a 8 MR320 they are at the right money now & stunning cars. Would sooner spend my money on a evo over a escos anyday. Although if i was going to spend proper money on a decent spec evo i would buy a csl without thinking twice.
