Thats the thing i dont know what it is i done a fair bit of mods to my escos from small turbo to big turbo ect never had too much bother with it apart from me fucking about with it. But i always got in the evo without worrying about it breaking or not getting there. Plus the fact i never worried about taking the evo out in the rain or leaving it in a car park where i never left my escos anywhere!

Once Dave gets the evo that 2 of my mates who have got rid of cossies to get one. I already like the evo 6 Warren has and now Dave will have a 9. I can see a decent spec saff in flint grey being broken for parts very soon at this rate and an Evo replacing it

IMO an evo does everything a cossie does only better, but then thats to be expected. The only thing it doesnt seem to achieve as good as a cossie, is the gawp factor from passers by. But then who really cares about that lol

Dont be fooled either to its a vicious (sp) circle just the same i spent a fortune on my evo modding it they are just like a cossie in that way you can spend all day long & always want something new. But apart from modding a evo all you need to do is wash them

I,ve had 4 Evos... and now back to a 3dr...

My 8 MR 320 was a cracking car i have to say, as i said on a thread about a week ago, i,d still own that car if i hadn,t had to sell due to misses dad having a heart attack and needing money for a BYPASS op..

Mark built it for me, Fully Forged, Autronic, FP Green Turbo, Launch Control the lot...made 462 bhp anf 443ft/lb and was a hoot to drive..

Saying that, i do love my Cosworths and especailly 3drs, yes i,d have another Evo too but it,d be a 9GT or a 9 MR RS.... but it,s finding one of the latter.....

love my cossie and to be honest its been reliable and use it all the time, dont know if could justify 12 1/2 grand for evo, just fancying a change tho
My mate has an mild Purple 8 with 9 bumpers, a GT 5 speed box, RS rear diff and an RC 2.4 stroker etc and its fuckin mental. It's running 500/500 and im sure he has it up for sale on the MLR. Never really uses it as he lives the back of beyond so is either in his Tractor or Jeep

Course you can justify 12 1/2K for a toy

I sold my Escos for a Gunmetal Grey Evo 8.. .best thing I ever did... Simply awsome cars. I think a lot of people who have made the change never regretted it.

If your going to get one, I would recommend the MR versions. I had the FQ340MR and it was a nice car to drive and had a nice interior.

Aw right. Well can't be sure then, because that one I saw looked pretty new(paintwork was mint and shiney, whereas the 7 might not be as healthy looking?), but the wheels could also have been rotas! It was nice whatever it was!

Sorry to burst people's bubble here but taking a general view, not a lot of people know what a Cossie is, to a lot of people it looks like an old escort with a chav spoiler plonked on the back of it with some big alloys and loud exhaust. What I'm saying is only a few select people mainly car enthusiasts will really appreciate the Cossie, average Joe won't. Same can be said of the Evo really but more modern car, doesn't look like a classic 90s chav chariot and will give you all the thrills a Cossie would.

Much as I loved my own Cossie, and love some of the nicer ones on here, I'm more in love with my current Evo.

I had 2 Evo 8s for 6 months, both wicked cars. My current Evo is 590 bhp, and puts a massive grin on my face everytime I drive it.

The 470 bhp Cossie left me worried everytime I used it

Still love the Blue Oval, just more of a mitsi fan now.

Dave - great choice of car matey, best of the road going Evo's IMHO 420 - 440 bhp easily reached on the OE Turbo, MIVEC inlet cam so it should punch well too. Better still it can all be mapped on the standard ECU for next to no money if you know the right people

Also know a tuner who does a nice line in Autronic and Vipec ECUs if you want me to pass on his number

I drive my brothers sti (305bhp) all the time and also my sisters evo 8 (260), my bro's scooby is way faster imo and is really fun to drive, once you get the hang of it. My sisters is really solid and doesnt feel flimsy like the scooby, although a tad down on power you can get in it, do 5 miles and then you can push it with confidence. Its an amazinglgy well put together car.

I do a lot of work with the evo's and believe me, they are NOT bomb proof!

Although they are reliable, drop onto a few evo forums and check em out, saying that though, buy what you can afford. I could go out and buy a half decent cossie but if I bent it that would be the ned of that. That is why I have a rs turbo, I can afford to fix it.

IMO fords just seem to have a hell of a lot more character, even the smell.

God im sad :-(

As a quick quide, with a standard evo8, I can get a deal on a stage one upgrade which would hike the power to 350 - 380 bhp for £1500!!

Sounds a lot but it includes a lot of stuff which doesnt give you power but reliability.

Be careful what you sell though, I sold my fiesta years ago only to find that is really missed, when I bought it back is was ruined by chav boy racers :-(

Broke my heart

Good luck mate

its all down to age and new technoligy i think.
the cossies are at least 15years old and saph,s are even older ,your comparing chalk and cheese in my eyes.
would you compare the evo 1,2,3,4,5 to a new focuus rs

not slaggin the rice burners off in any way as we have a evo7 340 bhp and totally faultless.
the evo is a truley tremendous car out of the box
the cossie was also a tremendous car when it was new,you should be comparing the evo scoobie and new focus rs ,not a 20 yr old car. (imho)
