Big block chevy is imo the best engine ever. Take a look at the power top fuel dragsters get out of them and how long they have been around!

Pretty much any of Honda's newer Vtecs.

K20A2, F20B6 and the F20C are the best ones IMO.

surely its all opinions, i hate to admit it on here but the C20XE out of the vauxhall gsi's are pretty high on my list, the amount of abuse mine put up with was impressive and had very few problems until i started cocking about with it

Dont know about the best as you could argue about it all day i reckon honda might be at the top im not going to say bmw as i work there & they hhave more than thheir fair share of troubles. But the 16valve xe vauxhall engine in its day was a dam good engine went really well for being n/a & is still a favorite of alot of ppl

I would say the small block Chevy has got to be up there, been manufactured since the 50's have powered numerous cars (and boats), relatively cheap and huge scope for power

Was going to add the H22A7 as found in the Accord Type R too. I loved my one and due to the capacity it wasn't as gutless as the B16 I had in a previous motor.

Not sure I would go as far as "innovative" but it was one of the first truely high mileage cheaply available engines, and it was one of

Although people say the XE engine etc can take abuse, which of course is true, they cant take 200K miles the way a zetec can, its quite impressive how little lipping there is to the bore when these engines are run for 100s of thousands of miles.

So kind of good in their own little way, but of no real performance interest etc

If we talking about a family of engines that all came from a common starting point then got developed over time

A series
YB
Porsche Flat Six
Lambo v12
Rover V8
Rolls Royce V8
Alfa Boxer
K Series
Vtec

In no particular order

The greatest must be in there somewhere

You have to give them a proper beating to get any sort of performance out of them! Fantastic engines, but absolutely no torque low-down!

EDIT: What shape Supra? The 2JZ-GTE is apparently the best one if your looking to tune the engine.

Cosworth DFV? unmatched in motorsport for many years and still going strong now in the TGP series need deep pockets tho a decent new one is 100k now and on 500 mile (or less!) rebuilds

are we talking STANDARD engines.. ? or tuning potential of engines???

if you are talking tuning potential,.. then the chevy engine is pretty savage when used in drag cars lol//

I think we talking road car engines

But yes if we were talking race engines the the fva/dfv design has not been matched for its combination of longevity and success

If the class is for present standard production n/a 4 cylinder 2000cc , Then its ford I mean Mazda or is it ford no Sorry mazda Ford Duratec .

263 hp/ 177 lb torque. caterham r500

With honda coming in close second. s2000 2.0

If ford had though about it they could of made the st150's a civic type -r competitor
