Renault 5 Turbos
How easy in general are these to work on? what should you look out for when buying one? are there certain year's to avoid?
Whats the going rate for a decent one and how easy is it to get parts?
And the biggest question are they reliable?

working abaility, piss easy mate, not a lot to them at all. when buying one look out for the following main rot areas -
inside of tailgate just below window
arches under bodykit at rear
outer sills
around the edges of the windscreen seal
under the engine bays usually not too bad, battery trays are sometimes not the best but theyre a bolt on/off affair.
look out for worn or showing wires on timing sensors theyre a coont when they go and not the cheapest item.
usual turbo engine things, smoke on startup, overboosting etc etc... anything at all u know the score with them thesedays.
interior wise should be straight enough and true, hard to find good rear quarter panels with good cloth on them still, most cars will have some small things not 100% inside somewhere, parcel shelves that arent damaged are getting very hard to get now.
suspension wise theyre not too bad, torsion bar system checks for worn bearings and such, same things really as any torsion bar car.
no real years to watch out for, most have been ragged within an inch of their life at some point, a lot are being restored at present or looked after.
parts - most are very easy still to get, only a select few parts you cant get anymore for mechanical side of things from renault, however aftermarket companies do these now.
going rate - anywhere from £1000 to £3500 usually depending on condition/age/milage/spec etc. Raiders usually pull the best money very sought after.
reliability - no different from any other car really, gearboxes arent too strong but treat them carefully and dont thrash them to death in and out all day long they'll last... engines are as reliable as CVH's if, like the ford engines, regular cambelt and service intervals and proper oil and parts are used.
you could have a standard engine or anything up to 220bhp being reliable, we've built 180bhp engines that are reliable enough for daily drivers that have lasted a couple years before needing rebuilt IF theyre well maintained, i'd say theyre no more expensive to run than an rs turbo tbh!
if you require any more info let me know mate i work along side a tuner up here who is well known for his involvement in tuning turbo renaults for over 12 years and he really knows his stuff, i can ask him anything else you need to know.

the first thing you need to do is join up to rtoc.org
theres some good cars for sale on there, and as its the owners club, you know they are generally looked after better.
