Performance ford has gone to shit
Just picked up the Jan issue. I know its probably a few weeks old now but i havent bought one in a few months, and i got abit bored with the whole xmas thing.
It seems to have gone right down the pan. There's a few nice cars in there, but the writeups are shit, i found myself browsing the pictures after a paragraph then turning over. They're still on about the "budget racer" thing which was going on long before i bought my previous copy, Its just drivel.
Seems to me they've run out of ideas a while back and are trying to hold on to whatever used to work.
Fast ford will be getting a look through next time, no doubt.
Thanks for reading

Really? maybe its just me then, but i remember them being interesting reads lol.
i used to buy that, and i know it sounds stupid, but since i sold my cortina i find it hard to look at classics i still miss it and i'm saving for a mk1 escort at the mo. once i have one of them i'll buy it again, they have useful contacts in the back for trim parts etc. Chris pollit used to wrk for retro ford, as did ben morley, both now at performance ford irrc. I used to chat to chris on oldskoolford.co.uk when he had cortinas and capri's. seems he's moved on abit since!

i nearly fell over at the checkout when the woman behind the till said Ł4.30 for me copy of performance ford
see i used to get it when i was a schoolie and was under 2 quid and cozzies were new and tony turbosystems was still married and sue collins was... well.... sort of.... you know.
tbh i only got it for the martin schanche feature, anything modern with a diddy donkey and not cozzies is just boring to me as i'm cozzeh mad not rusty fucking fiesta mk1 shite mad
what them fiestas were doing in there is beyond me
thought the quality was good, the pics ok,just needs more cars like cozzies.
for fucks sake how about a proper wrc escort,a focus wrc car.
a xtrac rallycross car, somthing cozzie different. i like different not the same ol' stuff.
that norwegian cozzie was i'm afraid a ugly looking thing, only a mother could honestly say it was pretty

I haven't bought either for months, same old same old. It chaffs my arse that I seem to know more about cars than the writers. And I think I know nothing. The guides are for the most part aimed at illiterate numbnuts. I used to like mags like revs. Classic ford and Retro Ford are better, but even they are a bit light on content. Why I would want to spend Ł4.30 on a magazine that is 90% adverts is the question. Also all the write ups and features on tuning seem to be cut from the same loaf, ie the tuners are the same. A few brown envelopes seem to have changed hands if you ask me.

i think fastford is better since Dan got hold of it.its good to see a mixture of real world cars and not just mega cash track builds cos not all of us give a fuck nor relate to cossie after cossie.
fuck thats what made me stop buying both a few years back.sick to fuck of reading an issue and all it has front to back is RST and cossie.
now days you do get a lot of mixture of loads of fords and believe it or not, they dont have to be 500bhp+ to be interesting.theres a lot of good stuff being put together that doesnt have a cossie lump in it and thank fuck for that

but lucky as seatcupranet is like a mag but better, features, help, classifieds, all free and clickable
same as on here but without the gold member shite thats stops me selling up all my left over xr2 and rs parts

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I bought Decembers Fast Ford for the shoot out between the new focus RS's. 170 pages and only 7 featured cars. Nearly read it by the time I got to the check out

simon went to classic ford
top mag
dan took over fast ford
took what simon had and made it more, stamped his own mark on it
chaps at performance ford took their eyes off the ball a few years ago
it's still a bit hit and miss
though tit's got better in fits and spurts in the last 18 months
still got too many schoolboy errors to make it competitive and still too many very good motors missing out what should be a terrific write up but sort of losses it's way in the space between the thinking and the printing

i dont think either of them are bad mag's, but from my opinion it would be nice to see some more home built cars in there rather than cars of which the owners have taken it to a tuner, and its come out 5k+ later with a big spec list and lots of power, surely thats what tuners are supposed to do so featuring cars which they have built is just another thing to add to their portfolio, even if they arent boasting so much power or half the spec list i'd like to see some home built cars that people have had to put their own hard work into and have put their own touch's on and i think it would be nice for them to get recognition for this.
a lot of my mates are put off ford's after seeing some features and write up's and hearing about the sheer amount of money thats been thrown at a lot of the cars but that isnt always the case, i know of a few rst's and a couple of cossies that have been built to a good useable spec without having huge amounts of cash thrown at them, thats the sort of thing that appeals to me more than all these huge power cars that arent used all that often.

I enjoy having them both, FF & PF, on the coffee table, when I can afford to every month. Cheaper would be good, they do seem to have gone up to quite a lot, which for a printed paper product... why??

I find it irritating when I spot spelling and grammar mistakes in a publication I have paid money for (does that make me a snob?). That said, as a newbie to the Ford scene I enjoy seeing different ideas for mods to my car but I must say that although I have only been buying them for a few months I have already noticed repetition (either within the same mag or the same car featured in both mags). That is the death knell for a magazine (IMHO) as regular readers will stop buying. The internet is a much better source of info (and cheaper) but isn't that what Ian Hislop has been speaking about recently (why Private Eye isn't available online because he has journalists and publishers etc to pay and so needs people to buy the mags).
And no, I'm not 17!
