i used to buy all of them at one point, i aint bought 1 in ages, i think the old skool writers ie editors were best, they seemed more well put together, saying that fast ford still seems a good read

i have never ever bought a copy of performance ford mag, dunno why, i just find it dull. dont like the way its written etc. (i have of course rear a lot of issues working for fast ford mag)

and having worked for fast ford for 3 years, since i left i have only bought one copy, the one with no words on the cover and the red escort as the cover alone interested me...
then i tried to read the mag...

i do have better things to spend my Ł4 odd quid on a month, and it certainly isnt any car mag of any sort

beer however....

I personally don't mind either Fast Ford or Performance Ford; will always pick a copy up when seen. I find the tech articles good to read etc. But agree, with retro and classic ford as well, it can get expensive!

Ł4.30 for a magazine is ridiculous imo!

I'll have a quick scan through in the shop and if there's something interesting then i'll buy it, if not, i dont, simple.

I used to buy CCC every month when that was about, Classic Ford and Retro Ford are both good mags and i've bought Retro Cars a few times, some interesting old skool cars about.

you cant blame a mag if theres nothing new in a scene i bet both mags struggle to get different features each month !answer this what radical things have ford released in the last decade that have been heavily modified ? so the mags are stuck with a 20 year old rs scene mostly

well as im ford mad i buy both mags. I wish i could afford to buy retro ford and classic ford but if i did that i would be spending over 20 quid a month on mags. I think one of the mags so do a feature on people who cant afford to spend thousands on there cars. They would never run out of cars to feature. Ive got nothing against track cars but there has been loads featured recently.

but no one wants to read about cooking models mate, that's the arguement against using them

i know plenty of guys who's got very nice mondeo's, but who's going to want to read about them retro fitting powerfold mirrors with puddle lights in?
or changing the stereo to the facelifted version?

most of the newer cars can't have the major mods you can see done to them ebcause of all the technolog, so you aren't going to see many engie swaps and the like, much less shoehoring a big V8 into it

Thumbs up

I buy both mags every month and enjoy them tbh.

Performance Ford has definately gone downhill over the last few years, and each issue is either hit or miss. It's true, some months there is nothing at all to read lol, but the next, it could be full of decent info/write ups.

Fast Ford however, seems to include interesting content, some excellent articles and detailed photos of the feature cars, every month.

Take them for what they are, Ford porn with some decent info, that we have all probably read one month prior on this very forum.

I am off to Smiths lol.

Got to agree though, Retro Ford and Classic Ford are a much better read, include much more info on rebuilds/engine builds etc, and they dedicate loads more pages to the events they have visited!

I sporadically buy them now as l think PF has gone right down hill, Fast Ford has had a few dodgy issues lately but l purchased the one with Paul Linfoots 3dr in as that car interests me, l think the features possibly could go a little more in depth to be honest.

I generally always buy Evo mag though,

i buy both mags but i find ive read them in 10mins. not really a good enough read for a monthly mag, too many ads.

would like to see more budget track toys covered rather than super expensive weapons.

I have never really been into fast ford, i know its not the same now but a few years back it was mainly styling in my opinion. I always read performance ford thought it was a great read when nick and dave were there, but i honestly cant remember the last one i bought really gone down hill over the last year or so, seems very much like fast ford is today.Theres so many great cars on here some that arnt i think need featuring instead of over seas cars!

hmmmm i like the attitude of Practical Performance Car mag but very lacking in ford talk a part from the odd V8 capri n that

not sure what direction the ford mags are trying to take, there only seems to be room for cars from certain tuners these days???

ppc is a more hands on mag, will is forever banging on about stuff that annoys him and is more of a mini jeremy clarkson, on a budget, than the likes of dan and simon etc

but will runs a mag with lots of other older folk who know how to spanner the older staff so they spanner the older staff and have the nieche market for guys who are having a mid life crisis and have a garage to sleep in when the wife's got all hot and bothered about using the dishwasher for cleaning old cylinder heads

ff is mroe newer stuff, although the yb still retains the "king of the hill" trophey whenit comes to engine swaps, same as pf

classic and retro ford tend to concentrate on teh older stuff

then you have the likes of redline who cater for the younger chap who has a bit more dispoable income and a fetish for german and jap stuff

and then you have the teenage market that the likes of fast car and max power appeal too

the only thing i dislike with car mags nowadays is that they always seem to have a double spread of dodgy phone numbers if you require the services of some nekid ladies on the other end of the phone, and junior is forever asking me "why are those girls not wearing any clothes daddy?"

and then the mrs gives me funny looks and it's going to be the same reslut as fhm, no more buying the mag because the kids are asking too many questions, regardless of how well you try to hide them

yep all mag's gone to pot then, i met the PPC staff a couple o years back when they were in their 2nd year, they used my RST as the photo car for budget blasters, they still stick to their origional back garden workshop routes and do have some fantastic cars featured but try and find a copy in Lincoln!!! only up the road from their office but not easy to buy and i don't want a sub cos i dont want every issue!

reckon the old early 90's fast car and late 80's early 90's perf ford and fast ford had the mix right but i guess they need to move with the times like all businesses do.

I strongly agree with the soft porn part too it turns the back of the mags into Max Power.

I have bought PF and FF religiously since 1990. haven't bought either for more than 6 months or more though and don't intend to for the foreseeable future. Too expensive for a 15 min read and not enough real world cars imo, all big bhp blank cheque tuner stuff that are out of range for most people.

Im with you on that, i think since they left its been steadily declining. Good pictures and that, but i dont buy it just to look at pictures. It seems like its lost its 'down to earth-ness' and is going a bit like max power, that sort of thing. Just my opinion.

Probably because I've only just seen the thread! Fudgey no longer works on FF BTW.

A lot of criticism, some valid, some nonsense. The "you only feature big bucks cars" gets thrown around all the time, and is always from someone that doesn't actually read the mag. If you actually look at the blend of cars in FF you'll see that there's ALWAYS a mix of high and low budget stuff. If you just put in home-made stuff people quickly start to whinge that you feature shit cars.

As for the comments about the adverts - Find me a good mag with no adverts in... it won't happen as adverts are needed for any mag (or website for that matter) to survive.

I do however agree with the thread title.

I still buy both but neither are as good as they were.

Like someone else said, the inaccurate information troubles me really, think they need to fix that.

I do think PF was better when Nick and Dave were there.

I get a bit fed up of Cosworths and things that have just had bucket loads spent on them. There are other cars in this world.

The cars I like barely seem to get a look in. Be nice to see a few RS2000s, Orions, non-RS Focus', things like that. Stacks and stacks of them get modified, but just getting ignored as the mags seem to focus totally on the big budget, track based, stuff.

You won't find a tuner who's willing to tell a magazine what he's developing for the future

In my time on FF I've had probably one, maybe two people send in details of their Orion for a feature, and probably no more than 5 RS2000s. If they're out there, send them my way! Sadly, the vast majority of them aren't feature cars.

As for the Cosworth comment. Actually count the number of Cossies in each issue and then tell me that comment's valid!
