this argument about content has been going for years regardless of who the editor is but whatever changes you have seen in PF/FF,it will always please one camp more and then piss off the other ie:big mental power big cash cossie builds and those who also appreciate home grown lower budget modded cars too.
on countless forums this has come up why do people stop buying both and only recently have i read it elsewhere, the answer is still 'too many out of reach cars' cos the majority of us still own and everyday cars and aspire to make them stand out.
when you goto the shows you see a lot of usual cars that you rarely see the wood for the trees.dozens of cossie's lined up and RST's.that cool.there 99% of the time mint loved motors, but it gets a bit samey.
the ones that stand out for me are the other ranks of ford cars of which there are many.
people who havent spent 10 -20 grand but a few hundred or a couple of grand and a lot of ideas.as for 'fast' and 'performance',i think we have seen our fair share of so called lesser fords wip some big money arses on the track countless number of times.
and someone will always have a more powerful car,so where do you start measuring fast and performance and state thats where it all begins.im just as keen on an old fezza as anything else.if someone has sunk a lot of heart into a car it shows

lol, after reading all this, its apparent its just the same arguements time and time again,
which is understandable with budgets, interests e.t.c and youre never going to please everybody every month.
But id like to see everyone on here contribute to what they thought would be a happy medium for an ideal ford mag for 1 month!!
iv also been buying both mags since 1996 and i have to say theres more mags from ff in the pile then pf!

there are some cars that have been built money no object, cars such as michaels who was in ff the other month with his orange motor or andy g's focus
then there are cars that have been built and then the costs have started to build up, off teh top of my head although possibly not what the owners may have set out to do, rods, martins, dave's etc
and then you have those who don't look like a lot of money but have had money throw at them when it's been neccesary, jimmy's
and then you have the built on a budget lot who are basicly guys who have a bit of spannering knowledge and have lucked ou with the cost on the more expensive stuff, for example, tank mike with his rs powered transit who has been lucky enough to be a mechanic and had the fortune of having chip map his motor for him (not that i'm saying he's got stuff for free or cheap, he's just been lucky to have had help from a few friends along the way, there must be hundreds of peeps out there in the same situation, his is just the closest to hand other than beefy's motor)
and then there are peeps like me, who have spent thousands on a motor only to have it sat there gathering rust because i can't be arsed to finish it off and need someone to say "look what i did"
and that's wht i think the main categories of ford peeps are about if you discount the bufties, so how do you mix everything up and please everyone in every issue time and time again?
you can't, so you try your best
if money was no object i'd be bolting in a 1500 bhp twin turbo'd V8 into the estate, full bare metal rebuild ala chip foose with everything in carbon and then be done with it, but then i'd be in the category of "money no object" and everyone would say "you just threw an open cheque to some tuner to get what you wanted done" so where do you go from then onwards?

Would you do a feature on mine without it being timed, people expect fast cars to be put to the test, or why make them fast it makes no sense.
Yes i realise your No 1 priority is sales & im a Petrol Head in the minority, bring back the old days when it was all about Performance.

In my time on FF I've had probably one, maybe two people send in details of their Orion for a feature, and probably no more than 5 RS2000s. If they're out there, send them my way! Sadly, the vast majority of them aren't feature cars.
As for the Cosworth comment. Actually count the number of Cossies in each issue and then tell me that comment's valid!

It's an interesting debate, and I think Spooj's post rings pretty true with me. People saying only 'fast' or 'performance' cars should be featured, well, that's totally a matter or perspective isn't it? Some of you are used to 400+bhp cars, so anything less is mediocre, and although I've been around plenty of fast cars and things, some of us really aren't in a position to own such things. I know a chap who's 20, has a MK6 Escort, hasn't spent the world on it but, using a few choice bits, has turned it into a really nice car, and with a 2.0 Mondeo lump in, it's a nippy car, especially compared to what a lot of people that age own. Yet it will never get near a magazine feature, which is a shame. There's a lot of other people in the same boat who'll never get a look in, and yet, I've seen Focus RS' or STs, and also Fiesta STs with very basic modifications getting featured.
Dan, as for your comment on 1 or 2 Cosworths per issue, how about doing an issue with none in it? Just once
I understand it's a very challenging job, trying to please many different people, but I think a lot of us who are fans of the non-RS/ST cars feel a bit let down by the mags.

i do believe that, as mike's figures have shown in this months mag, that this is certainly the case as far as that article went
he produced some figures, then, afterwards, twiddled the computer to potentially give him more, so they've put it that he thinks he's got more
same with the severn valley motorsport rst, the one with the slip claiming an 11 second 1/4 mile
i can't remember who asked the question, but it was regarded that only official timing slips from the likes of santa pod be used for verifying any claimed times as it's a garantee'd place where you can have quoted figures from

Hmmm, whilst I had my old Astra VXR I got into the habit of reading Total Vauxhall and I must say, to me, these guys are streets ahead of their stablemate FF... They cover & road-test emerging brand-new Vauxhalls and are not affraid to put them on the front cover. They also mix up the cars each month and cover a much broader spectrum and are not only obsessed with power. I still buy FF though and generally enjoy it - just wish they would move things on a bit...
PF though, I used to love (back in about 2003 when they did some great bits like when the lads bought a Series 1 & 2 and compared them, oh and in 2007 when they did the DVD)) but haven't bought it since Dave & Nick went.

Testing every car is wildly impractical, but I definately see your point about printing figures unless they're backed up.

in which case,it may be worth the time and effort for someone at a mag to sit there and record loads of different cars time when there is a show at the pod and the, if they were dishing out features for best car mods, they would have a verifiable figure to get the numbers from

As far as the word colors and how and where it was placed, Some sections may be a bit difficult but I find that lots of magazines do that.
Actually, it wasn't Nick, it was me lol. One thing I did find a bit odd was, there were so many pictures taken of her car and some that I thought were better but only a few were shown. Either way, we were very happy to have the car in the magazine and for us, it was an honour. BTW, I tell people that's the hand of God pushing the car.. you'd have to be init to understand what I mean lol. Let's just say I gave my mate who owns a nicely modded Scooby a ride and all he could say was OH MY GOD.. over and over..I think he almost had an orgasm...or his but puckered up to much hahahahaha.
Again, I appreciate both Fast Ford and Performance Ford for what they do. You guys should be thankful that there are two magazines that support the Fords you drive! Nothing like that exists for us in the US (for turbo/performance non Mustang Fords).

Back in the day when I worked on Revs the team size and budget meant that we could do much more messing about and 'fun' stuff. We all spent days building a banger for a banger racing feature, but because the team was so big we could afford the time out of the office. Now smaller team sizes and smaller wallets prevent us from doing many of the features we'd love to do.

I got told about this thread earlier, and I was racking my brain trying to think who it could have possibly been that made this post, as despite what people may think, I don't go out of my way to offend anyone.
After a quick read through however, I've worked out who you are, and thought I should address the points you've made.
1. You can think what you like about me, and it's very easy to sit behind a keyboard and be abusive towards someone, but when the other people reading it don't know the full story, I think it's only fair I have my say.
The reason you have a problem with me is that I wouldn't promise you a place on the cover of the magazine. At the time (I don't know what the car is like now, it may well have changed a lot?!), the car was not, in mine, and the other staff on the magazines opinion, a cover car. It was our decision and I stand by it. Simple as that.
2. I'm a fully qualified mechanic, and have been for well over 13 years, passing all my college course at the top of the class. I worked for a race team building winning cars and engines, and also spent six years working for a well known tuning company building cars, building engines and generally tuning fast road and race cars. I'm now also working as part of a motorsport team building engines and crewing cars at events.
You saying I "new Fuck all about anything" is just your opinion, but again I felt it neccesary to have my side of the argument.
3. You may well have found me to be "rude and up his own arse", but that again is your opinion, based on point one. I didn't particularly like your attitude either, but I haven't felt the need to come on to an internet forum and write abusive posts about you.
4. And finally... Andrew Gallacher is a friend of mine, one who I have socialised with away from shows and car features. Andrew asked me if I would help him out at Ford Fair as he didn't have any of his team available to run his car for him. He invited me up, paid for my hotel room and took me out for a night out before the show.
I in turn repaid the favour by looking after his car for him at the track event, and also helped source and fit parts to cure a few problems he was having. If you see that as me "licking Andrew Gallaghers arse", then so be it. It is again your opinion.
How should I have repaid the favour? By standing at the other side of the pits and trying not to be seen near him, incase people thought I was licking his arse? That was however a rhetorical question, as I really don't value your opinion at all, on this or any of the other points you made.
Like I said, I just wanted to put my view across. You can write whatever you like in reply, as I really don't care, and probably won't see it anyway as I don't have access to the internet any more, or even own a computer.
Thank you to everyone who has made positive comments about the work Dave and myself did over the years, we did put a lot of effort in to what is a very difficult job, despite what may seem as "the best job in the world", and it's still nice to see we were appreciated.
Anyway, I've rambled on for long enough, I've got work to do.

I think they should feature more Mondeo's even though the staff car park is full of them!! but Im biased. Love to see some different things. its like the built not bought bit the STI escort the guy has been grinding at the front panel for the last 3 issues!!!
I also think its time diesels got a fair punt both mags dismiss them as smelly rattly cars driven by family men and farmers.. Diesel technology has come along way and there is no mag that has enbraced it at all..
As for only putting modded cars in there is more and more virtually standard looking cars in the mags with mabe a set of wheels and some lowering but if its not "IN" then I suppose its not feature worthy.
Personally I love the mags but as said you cant please everyone.... and after all no matter what anyone says on here they would be chuffed to bits if their car was featured i nany of the mags...

Thing is there used to be Perf ford mag and fast ford mag now there's classic ford and retro ford so mostly new cars in Perf and fast ford so no old skool unless you buy all 4 mags . They running out of show cars tho .
Think more shoot outs and thrashes would help both mags

To be honest, I think both mags have their bad months. But it's not down to the editors or the mags contributors, it's simply the time of year and current climate that effects ongoing projects. People don't have the money they once had to throw over their cars, priorities take over and cars tend to stay on the back burner for a lot longer than anticipated or even broken and sold on. Same goes for Thrashes, where Brunters costs so much to hire out, health and safety continues to be an increasing burden and you can never guarantee the attendance of big named cars. Sign of the times....

We'll be running 'Fight Club' again this year!
But we won't be at Brunters any time soon - or at least WE won't be organising any thrashes, but we may well be covering thrashes organised by other people, as there are no H&S consequences or problems with our insurance companies.
Anyway, how old is this thread!

I've gotta take my hat off to Dan for comming on here, it shows he cares, so fairplay to you lad
As for the mags, I stopped buying performance ford a long time ago, only when the put Ronnie's 3 door and jamie's project Q managed to get me to buy it, much prefer fast ford and classic ford. Classic ford has great tech and real budget/down to earth stuff. Fast ford has featured some really nice machinery recently and Stu's articles are great, but the mag can get slightly repetitive, I mean, normally a focus ST/RS, one cossie, an rs turbo with a zetec, and a fiesta zetc s/ST, what about xr3/xr4s, pumas etc? surely there are some feature worthy ones out there?
