i put the socket on to it and for no reason whatsoever, it just fell apart

went to halfords who sell them and they basiclly said no they couldnt get me a new one.
so im left with four wheels i cant take off, a need them off at the moment. so i hammerd a size 12 socket over them and 3/4 came off fine
u can just see the socket scarring on it.


but on the 4th wheel nut, fuck knows why, as i hammerd the socket over the fucker shatterd.

so i was left with half a wheel nut still on.
so 12mm socket R.I.P i put a weld in it.



slid that over and it came off ok.


but seriously, what a ball ache to take four O.Zs off.

I got a set of these from Halfrauds and second time using them managed to knacker mine too, had to pay something like Ł18 for a new one from Germany, if you've got the packaging it'll have the code on you need for a replacement

so far i am banned from 2 chavfools sorry halfords for arguing with managers that dont have a clue what they are talking about, its terrible round here last time i went into halfords (there are three of them near me) i was asked by a member of staff if they could help me, i paused for a moment looked at him and said 'most probably not' and walked off lol

i also have a good way to get locking wheel nuts off though, got given a car by a mate and to cut a long story short it had steelys on with locking wheel nuts on and the wrong key for them.... petrol powered disk cutter came in handy, had the job done within minutes

i think i would have found a nother option had the wheels been any good

if that ever happens again find a garage with locking wheel nut removers. all they are is a set of sockets in various sizes with a reverse thread that tapours in slightly. you simply find the 1 thats the best fit and wind it on. use a bar not an impact gun and simply winds over nut till its locks then starts to untighten nut! think they are only about Ł40 for a set!

the problem was the wheels that were on the car were O.Z superlaggera's and anyone who's had them will know that they hug the wheel nuts. so there was very little clearence for anything to industrial.
but i know halfords are a pain, ive got a p100 with all the cosworth running gear, so if i want anything they ask for a licence plate number, i cant give them a valid one so it goes tits up and im there for hours

ive got a set, they dont work tbh m8, its easyer to just hammer a socket over like i did.
theifs would just but the removers if they were that easy

i am yet to find a halfords store where the staff no what a mitsubishi legnum is, one lad tried telling us they didnt exist as he couldnt find it on his computer..... if thats the case i would love to know what it was i went to halfords in...

iv got the same ones on my car off a new ford focus st and they have done the same . iv still got to get the frunt wheels off as to getting the backs off i had to weld a bolt on to it and the heat helped to get them off i hat them there shit

yes it is, the VR-4 models are really impressive ... my mate has one and spent a day flying past porsche GT3' all day at cadwell race track, i would love to have seen the GT3 drivers faces when they realised they couldnt keep up with an estate...

yes i beleive they are, and as it happens they do a manual version but on on the uk models which are rare as rocking horse doo doo...
having said that most legfnums come ith the tip tronic box which i dont think is really that bad... i dont know much about the 3000gt i am pretty sure they share the same engine

the nut shattering like it did i cant explain, but i would imagine that in the past the ford garage or quick fit or someone has air gunned them fatigueing the key.

a mate of mine had problems with these recently too, not quite as spectacular as that though, the key just stopped gripping the nuts

as said, overtightened by some clueless twat, you come along at later date try to take them off and they fall apart, all lockers will fuck up if they arent fitted correctly.

i remember watching a local trye fitting company tightin mine up, the used the air gun till it wouldnt turn then a torque wrench... when i told them to do it propperly they broke the locking nut key and i made them pay for new locking nuts a watched them take all of the old nuts off without damaging the wheels.... was not impressed

As above, got all my code numbers stored, in case needed.
On me and me dads cars between us we have 11 sets, I'm a bit paranoid, never had a problem and always torque up to 75lbft when replacing wheels even on the lockers.
I suspect at some time some idiot has been at it with a fun gun, had a wheel held on with just 2 of these once for around 100 miles, someone had started to steal my wheels,
(DS OPTICS) and taken of the two normal nuts stopped at the lockers, only noticed as the loose ones were rattling around inside the centre cover, so they put this on after which is odd!!

there isnt any socket that can take off the type with a spinning collar.

unless you weld the inner bolt to the outer collar, then you can bash a socket on to it, but there arent many thieves tooling around with a mig so id go with these.

if they have a spinning collar i would imagine u would have to cut into the socket with a dremmel and a little cutting disc or something similar and use a strong screw driver with a spanner on the end to turn it out.

seriously those sockets are not industrial size same as a normal socket just with a thread inside,i had tsw alpines and the nut is well set in to the spoke with just enough space for a 17mm!. i think sealy tools do them but if you know any who has contact with 'snap on' van they are the best to get and will work time and time again!!!
